WR BLUE BLOBEYE BONNET WANTED
I am after a wr blue bonnet from a 2003-2005 wrx or sti
Mine is stone chipped to buggery, and i think it will cost me a lot less to source a second hand one then pay my local "decent"body shop £400 to respray the bonnet
I am after a good condition jobbie ie no or very few stone chips etc
Does the sti scoop fit into a wrx bonnet?
if so either will do
cheers mark

The missus knows neil down there, that rather large looking bloke
He has told her to tell me to take it across the road to zavier autos,as according to form, they prep and/or repair all montys car's and do a superb job to boot, just a little concerned about leaving the car with them overnight

£400 for a bonnet respray
I only paid £360 to have my front bumper modded to take A FMIC, repair a damage wing and respray the whole front end (bonnet, bumper, grille, both front wings).
The Bonnet on it's own should about £100, £150 at the most.

But it has since come to my attention that montys subaru use a company on neapsend called zavier motors,The place looks a "cut and shut" specialist, but i have seen some of there work and it is spot on,so i may well be going direct to them and cut out the middle man
The only problem i have is that i use the car every single day,so its looking likely i may need to splash a little extra on a hire car ,and i dont really want to leave the car in some back street garage for three days, thus the reason i was trying to source a bonnet, wheather it is wr blue and mint or one that needs spraying,so i can just leave the bonnet and fit myself when its done

bonnet painting costs
Hi guys id like to share some facts about painting
i have been a body repairer for 35years and owned a bodyshop which did repairs for my local scooby main dealer till they gave up the franchise
the going rate for insurance bodywork is £28-£30 per hr.(around london)
mechanical is a different story
painting a stone chipped bonnet would be approx 4 hrs.
to do a proper job (the only way i would do it) would require removing the scoop from the bonnet and the bonnet from the car to put on a spraying stand, this makes painting easier and avoids any chance of over spray 0.5hr
refitting after painting approx 0.5 hr.
if like us you had a paint mixing scheme you would mix and test spray the colour and possibly tint to get a good match.
when using ready mixed colour you are in the hands of the factors mixing man who could be a couldnt give a f*** type! and a miss match colour would be returned wasting everybodys time.
where a bonnet is concerned on some cars it may be necessary to fade the colour into the front wings (after removing any motifs lamps etc approx 1.5hrs each side.
when the wings come off the bonnet at an angle (up or down) and especially when using a mica base paint which flips the colour easily when at an angle you would not fade out as it is pointless.
any panels on the side of the vehicle would always need fade out unless you were very very very lucky.
materials for a bonnet alone would be about £60-£80 for primer base coat laquer and hardner and another £40-£50 for fade out if req.
unlike house paint a litre of mica pearl base colour could cost £65
so £400? if its just the bonnet...a bit much
£70 hr labour ! i dont think so..... walk away
paint a bonnet properly for £100......i couldnt
the more work done at one time the relatively cheaper it gets
also spare a thought for the painter, who even with an air fed mask when painting can still breath in the cancer causing isocyanate poison in two pack solvents when mixing or when rubbing down (as it is reactivated) which can and probably will kill you eventually.
