why???? the log book is ID for the shell.Your shell will have a different chassis number to the logbook you are trying to obtain.Just apply to the DVLA with your chassis number and get a replacement

as above its illegal, every log book is registered to a matching shell, if the chasis numbers are different the car will be impounded and crushed as it wont realistically be reported stolen or have a registered owner

you CANT change the cars ID, if you want a log book you will need to apply to dvla for the original one. only costs £25 and its legal, doing it the other way will loose your car and alot more money than a stupid tax disc trust me.

it doesnt matter if the log book is for a 1.6 or a 2.0 turbo the tax band is the same.
and the car may be legal just now but as soon as you get another log book and stick that reg number on your chassis you've comited a crime, when you mot the car the actual car your driving wont be mot'd but infact the shell of the log book you accuired will be mot'd
your really not winning anything by doing this, but hey its your choice

how on earth can it be legal to use a logbook from another car if you own them both???
on the logbook it states the reg number A1 AAA and chasis number 1234567890
so the car with chasis number 1234567890 must bear reg number A1 AAA and nothing else
SO FOR THAT MATTER THE LOG BOOK YOUR WILLING TO SELL WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT CHASSIS NUMBER FROM HIS SHELL, AND THE CHASSIS NUMBER CAN NOT BE CHANGED ON THE CAR OR LOG BOOK
what do you think ppl do with stolen cars????? they change the plates and chassis numbers to try hide their true identity. some of the stupid thiefs just change the number plates which then dont match the chassis number and that starts ringing alarm bells with the old bill.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND PHONE DVLA IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME.
other wise i will sell you a set of log books and plates for £100 each i'll make money and you'll end up with toilet roll

If you own both cars and decide to reshell one it is not a problem
I echo your concerns if it is done in a corrupt way to hide something then yes it is illegal, done correct and if need be car vic checked and it is no problem
Trust me I have seen it done legally many many times

VIC check.
Or have second set of numbers, thus no attempt to hide original id
I sold 3 or 4 to rally teams last year all of which were registered no probelm#
One of which went to a World rally team

putting a car thru a vic test to get it re-registered is only to get a new reg number applied to the car, if the car was wrote off and needs to go thru a vic test it no longer has a registered reg number plate hence why it needs to go thru a vic test, once its thru the test the logbook will still have the same chassis number as it did when it came from the factory, you cant ever change the chassis code of a car as that holds all the cars history, stolen, crashed etc etc. the car can be re-registered with a new reg number but not chassis number.
