Default P1, sorted type R or spec c

Hi all, looking at getting a classic 2 door, preferably a tidy P1 or well modded type r. However will also consider a bugeye spec c.

Would like to spend around £6k but would go to £7k for the right car. Body work must be good.

What have you got???

I'd say it depends what you want from it. P1 will still be worth more in 5 years time, but in my eyes arent worth all the hype... the Type R will have the short ration box, DCCD etc and be a more fun drive if you decide to go on track etc.

TBH I think the sensible decision would be a tidy P1. It will mainly get used for weekend fun and unlikely to be tracked. I know you can get a lot more for your money buying a type r but I would be happy to spend on the P1 knowing its value is very likely to never drop lower than today prices and will hopefully be a good long term investment.

However, should a big spec type r creep up i.e. +400bhp then this may well tempt me.

Decisions decisions ;-)

Type R STi's are manic with their high revving close ratio gearings. P1 has the longer 5th and UK suited suspension (which does make alot of difference for spirited B-roads). However, you can get nicely mod'd V-Ltd's with the RA gearing which has a longer 5th too, and you can buy P1 suspension. I saw a used set for £200...

Thanks for the info.

I have a UK 2000 at the moment with replacement STI box and UK 5th and quite like the set up, especially on a TD05 16g. However the UK unfortunately is now is dead money where as a p1 is likely to hold value. Only a nicely modded type r could tempt me away from a p1 I think.

I wouldn't get hung up on the P1. It's not miles away from an R... clicky
