Warning to all Herongate (Essex) drivers Police cameras hide out of site
Just a friendly warning to those that might be travelling at 32mph.
This morning I was driving to work from Brentwood on the A128 towards the A127.
As you drive into Herongate into the 30mph limit there is a bus stop on the left that the (Highly visible) van usually sits in with the black box in front of it! Catching 'stupid' drivers over the limit! If you can't see the van you deserve points!
NOT this time! Just up from there in the turning on the left he had parked the van, out of site, with the black box on the pavement!
No way of seeing it till the last second! It was slow traffic anyway 10mph, so when I saw him behind the hedge, I looked him in the eye and shook my head (No need for this tactic!).
In 30 limits I tend not to stray past this, but I object strongly to this revenue earner the police are using hence the post!
Drive safely!

well done VTEC ... in addition to what you said also watch out for the new tactic on the A13.
Going london bound keep to the 70mph limit as you go past the turn off for thurrock as the police now sit underneath the bridges that follow this turn off right up to the turn off for the dartford bridge with forward facing cameras

Guys
Thought I'd let you know that he was there again this morning!
This time he was completely out of sight (Obviously didn't raise enough money when just the black box was on display), luckily a nice guy was warning people about the HIDDEN camera (where is the deterant if you can't see them?)
Rear view mirror saw a Yellow camera and van parked in the same side road as mentioned above but as mentioned he was completely out of site watching the £ signs rack up! (Is this allowed????)
Could easily have got 3 points for straying above 30 mph (32/33mph) this morning.
Outraged!

Would have thought the car would be out of site before any computer had time to cross reference the archives!

I have no idea how the roadside cameras work as I have tax and insurance.
These cameras are also fitted into police traffic cars here in Teesside. They read all number plates of oncoming and with flow traffic as the Police car goes about it's normal patrols. My cousin (who is a Policeman) says they can check against a database almost instantly! If it gets a "match" for tax/ insurance, the computer beeps and shows a still image of the car in question on the monitor....the policeman will then pull that vehicle and do a check. I have been told that his day can be entirely filled by pulling people over based on this camera/ computer system as there are so many cars on the road that shouldn't be. 90% of the cars pulled will result in the driver being done for something....i.e no tax, no insurance or something else. This is why the Police get stroppy when you put on non-legal number plates.
He says it is pretty funny when stopping people for no tax/ insurance as he will arrest them there and then. The car is then towed and crushed if it has no tax
