Blyton report in Banzai Mag
Hi guys,
After the success of the WYIOC track day at Blyton earlier in the month, I'm putting together a report which will appear in Banzai magazine in a few months time. Hope this is ok with you guys as it should be excellent publicity for the club.
I have pics of most of the cars that were on track that day - see the list below. I'd like to put drivers names/ car/ spec/ mods/ bhp if known etc against the list of registrations so the captions and report are correct. I've removed the numbers from the reg plates in case any cloning scumbags stumble on this, but I guess you'll still be able to pick out your plate!!
Please add to the thread/ email me if there's anything else you'd like me to mention about the day:
Was it your first track day?
Did you enjoy it?
Did you have an 'off'?!
How many tyres did you get through?
Any mechanical failures?
Any incidents? - we'll miss out the obvious one!
or anything else that might spring to mind....
The deadline for the feature is very soon so be quick!!
List of cars pictured on track:
Black Impreza M*** EWX
White CRX
Grey 200SX L***TGH
Focus RS
Red 200SX P*** TBW
Black Mazda 323
Silver Impreza RRH
Pug 309 (track car bought for £200?)
Blue Impreza K*** ELA
Yellow Impreza L*** MAW
Green 200SX V*** FWB
Red Evo 8(?) C* ARK
Red 200SX L*** GBU
The Noble
Silver Impreza DAZ ***
Silver Impreza FJZ ****
Blue Impreza YS** HGP
Blue Evo 6(?) Y*** UEU
Black Clio 182
I'd particularly like the owners of the black 323 and red 200sx (L***GBU) to get in touch as these both appeared to be far from standard!!
Also, most of the cars in the paddock have been pictured. If for any reason you don't want your car to appear in the mag, please let me know.
Thanks for your help

Hi Jon
Name: Darren Meston
Car: Silver Impreza DAZ 444
The car is a Turbo 2000 with the Prodrive WR Sport pack fitted. It runs at 245bhp and 255lb/ft
The WR Sport Pack
Uprated Engine Management System
Revised Intercooler Ducting
Stainless Steel Performance Exhaust Silencers
Prodrive STi Suspension - Eibach Springs/Bilstein Shocks
Front EBC Turbo Groove Discs & Red Stuff Pads
17" ST2 Spedline Alloys in Silver
Quick Shift Gear Change
Carbon Gear ****
Prodrive Recaro Sport Front Seats
PIAA Front Driving Lights
WR Sport Rear Spoiler
STi Front Splitter...............(only two bits of it left now)
This was my first track day and I thought it was brilliant! can't wait to do it again.
I went off the track on my second lap and smashed the front splitter to pieces when I hit a marker tyre, not a good start but the rest of the days laps were OK.
I managed to get through the day without completely destroying my tyres, probably get another day out of em. The one problem I did have was brake fade, I could only do six or seven laps hard before smoke appeared and stopping power disappeared, suppose it's to be expected on standard size brakes though.
Also got pulled on the way home, the cops thought I didn't have any insurance. Someone saw me aswell, I think it was RRH. Still it didn't spoil my day cos I proved them wrong with a big smile
Daz
PS what obvious incident?

Black 309 GTI
Owned by : Hazel Stephenson, Kevin Stephenson, Andrew Brown, Claire Gent
It was the cars first mileage since been bought from ebay as a standard 309 GTi for £200 as a non runner. Since then the car has had a full weight reducing strip out, OMP 10 point cage, pair of cobra monaco seats, pair of 5 point harnesses, battery relocation, straight through exhaust, induction kit, full service. Total cost for all mods, service and a spare set of wheels <£1k.
All 4 co-owners have done some track time before especially Hazel who is using the car as additional training for the elimination stages of the 2006 Formula Woman Championship.
The car had a few minor 'offs' through the day but nothing serious, plenty of sideways lift off oversteer though as the terrible cheap brand rear tyres turned to cheese through the day.
Tyres consumed through the day, 1 complete set
Mechanical issues, nothing major, lost an exhaust spring and coolant expansion tank cracked due to high pressure. Both of these were bodged back together so the fun could continue
All in an excellent day without the worry that if a major incident should occur the finances take a major hit. Just log back onto e-bay and buy another shell.
Kev
P.S. I will head over to the SXOC and track down the 323 (Kes) and the red SX

Easiest wat to see my spec is HERE.
Had a great day, the car being driven by me (David Watson), my partner Helen and my Dad No offs, as I know the track very well having had several sessions of tuition from Howard Patterson (the owner) in both dry and (extreme) wet. I did all my sliding in his car including a 90mph 180 and backwards off the track right where the incident was, and according to Howard I still hold the record for getting the most out of shape into the bottom hairpin and still actually recovering it and setting a superb lap time Big ego that day Howard set a 58.9s that day on his own track, in his own car and with 30+ years of international rally driving experience. I set a 59.8s, on my 2nd visit to his track and only my second go in a Scooby ever
Can't wait to se the article Jon, and once again, THANKS on behalf of the WYIOC

K999ELA (Print the number if you want, that's what it's there for )
Fourth time at this track, but first time in a Scooby (Last 3 in Evo FQ300's)
Had to take it a bit easier than usual as this was the wife's car
No incdents, thankfully. Had a great time as usual, though the car took a little more 'persuasion' to oversteer than the Evos did it was still a good laugh, and I have to admit that I had more fun than I thought I would (Yep, there is a bias towards the 'bishi)
Managed to wreck both n/s tyres through sliding around the hairpin, but this was expected, and they were replaced the following week.
All in all, where else can you have so much fun for so little money?
I'll be at the next one, just remains to be seen what car I'll be in.
PS, you might want to use one of these...
High res versions available upon request.

L***MAW Yellow WRX
Owner and driver:- Michael (Mick)
MY93 JDM Impreza WRX Imported by myself last year ex Tokyo Subaru car.
BHP its not what the graph says its how the chassis twist's
Modifications / spec
Semi Closed deck block
Alloy wishbones and other under chassis braces / hood
Up rated ECU
Dawes device (instant spool up)
TD05 running instant (1 bar)
Up rated Fuel pump exposed fuel reg
Blitz VTA
Apexi cold air induction
Apexi 3" open neck decat down pipe
Apexi 3" stainless exhaust system (FULL)
Tracer VII alloys 17"
Green pads / ABS
This was my first track day experience, and well I still smile when I think about it. Having a performance car in its self is a all round wonderful experience,
Driving legally but enthusiastically on the highways is not really the safest way to search for limits.so therefore, this track day provided me with the chance to get the car very close to its limits of adhesion well to be completely honest occasionally passed them.
The thing being it was a safe environment to try high speed cornering braking and 4 wheel drifting knowing that you were not endangering other road users while attempting these things.
This WYIOC event was not only very very practical as in gaining skills and learning about the cars handling when close to the limits, But thrilling and completely enjoyable. Really cant express how much fun the day was.
The addition of intelligent sensible'ish and above all experienced drivers attending this event played a huge part in its enjoyment.
I had no tyre issues at all, the front left did take most of the abuse but was still in a legal state after the event.
I did not have any 'offs' but did get crossed up a few times, but hey there the bits that make you know your alive and burn a grin onto you face.
as Andy says Where can you have so much fun for so little money.
Excellent day cant wait for the next one..........

The red S13 is one of the Apex Performance Parts test mules. The spec at the track day was as follows although the cars currently at our tuners having a much larger alloy plenum and throttle body fitted along with ARP head stud and nut kit, nitrous to be used as anti lag, Bosch 044 fuel pump and a remap. It might well also be getting a larger turbo, I have one here ready to fit depending on how well the car performs with the other mods.
If you saw the car youll have seen how laggy it is hence us fitting nitrous to try to make it more responsive. If the nitrous is sucessful then we will try the larger turbo.
Engine:
HKS cams
Valve springs
Tomei titanium retainers
Cam pullys
Phospher bronze valve guides
Head work
Trust head gasket
JE pistons
Trust rods
Garret GT3071R 0.86 turbo
OMEX 700 management
Apex oil cooler kit
Koyo alloy rad
Pacet twin 12" electric fans
Cusco engine mounts
Nismo thermostat
Apex cooling panel
Twin Cusco catch tanks
Exhaust/Filter:
K&N
Apex intercooler
Yashio Factory tubular manifold
Apex high flow turbo elbow
Apex 3" front pipe
Apex 3" decat
Apex cat back exhaust
Fuel:
FSE fuel pressure regulator
Walbro fuel pump
SARD 1000cc injectors
Transmission:
B&M short shifter
OS Giken twin plate clutch
S14 gear box with OS Giken 3 gear set with uprated main shaft
Cusco RS 1.5 way LSD
Nismo gearbox mount
Brakes:
AP Racing 6 pot 342mm front brakes with DS2500
300ZX rear calipers, discs and Redstuff pads
Castrol Response Super Dot 4 fluid
Goodridge front and rear hoses
300ZX master cylinder
Suspension:
Apex coilovers
Whiteline front and rear arbs
Apex front and rear upper strut braces
Apex rear lower brace
Cusco front under brake
Apex front rose jointed tie rods
Apex rear rose jointed camber arms
Apex rear rose jopinted toe arms
Nismo subframe bushes
Whiteline pinapple rings
Whiteline front and rear lower arm bushes
Whiteline rear camber, traction and toe arm bushes
Nismo p/steering rack mount bushes
Steel s/column disc
Interior:
Sparco seats
Sparco 3" racing buckle harnesses
Bride seat rails
OMP plumbed in electronic fire extinguisher system
H-Dev full roll cage
Sparco steering wheel/Momo boss
Sparco group N quick release
Blitz Duel DC TT
Apex dash gauge pod
Greddy pillar pod
Greddy 60mm peak warning boost, oil temp, fuel pressure, egt and oil pressure gauges
Greddy Profec B boost controller
Exterior:
Apex carbon bonnet
Apex carbon tailgate
Volk 8x17" rims with slicks
Ultralite 8x18 rims with moulded rally tyres
Ultralite 8x18 rims with Toyo R888s
Theres probably other parts that Ive missed but thats the bulk It ran 425@wheels at 1.6 bar on SCAs rolling road with 68% duty cycle on the 1000cc injectors but it runs 2bar+ on the road with 82% duty cycle and 0.8 lambda which should be good for around 475 @ wheels.
I think the original plenum and throttle body will be proving a significant restriction to flow so by fitting the larger items Im hoping to up that figure a bit
If you like our S13 then you should see what we are doing with our S14. 6 speed sequential Quaife gearbox, OS Giken triple plate clutch, Moteq 800 Pro, Tomei Phase 4 engine, Greddy T78 turbo kit, 1600cc injectors and huge Trust 600x280x150 intercooler kit should give you an idea of the cars potential

From: If you rev it, they will come!
What's going on ere exactly, I know my car is fairly standard looking but I was definitely at the trackday
Look here it is
Owner and driver - Barry Goodridge
93 JDM WRX - K*** OCA
Green panel filter
Scooby ECU mapped by Pat at Scoobyclinic
Resonator box removed
Full decat with full 4" Revolution stainless exhaust
KYB AJX adjustable shocks all round
Eibach Pro -30mm springs all round
Grooved front and rear brake discs (make unknown)
EBC red stuff ceramic pads up front
Techstar pads at the back
Goodridge Stainless hoses all round
Dot 5 fluid
Whiteline adjustable rear ARB
Whiteline solid rear drop links
Full geometry setup
17" Team Dynamics wheels, (model unknown, came with the car)
Toyo Proxes T1S all round
270BHP
???lb/ft torque haven't got the figures to hand, have to get back to you on that
It was my first ever trackday and it was fooking brilliant
Didn't have any offs although I did get a bit out of shape through carrying too much speed through the last couple of corners down the back half of the track which meant I was approaching the turn far too fast but surprisingly the brakes saved me
Only other problem I had was the map for the ScoobyECU needs tweaking as it overboosts in 4th and 5th and I get fuel cut, I knew about it before hand though so was just a case of feeding in the throttle, although hammering down the main straight I managed to get it in 3rd for the first time ever
Currently on the lookout for some trackday tyres to go on some wheels I was gonna sell but have decided to keep instead as a result of this, front left took the worst of the wear but it was only on the outside edge, some signs of wear on the rear left too but nothing major . I will definitely be going to the next one as I learnt a lot about the handling of the car which has given me more confidence in it

Thanks for your help everyone.
If you were out on the track and I didn't get a pic of you, it's either because I was also on track at the same time or consuming burgers at the BBQ - sorry!!
Apologies to anyone I 've missed out, though I took quite a few general shots in the paddock so most cars should make an appearance somewhere in the feature.
Does anyone know details about the 323 as I gather it had quite an unusual spec???
Thanks again to everyone
Jon

Not my first track day, but really enjoyed it, great value for money. I had one 'moment' where I got a little carried away coming through the middle section and hitting the gravel left by the rallycross boys... One minor failure where the electrical plug came off the map sensor, easily sorted once I spotted it. On the day the engine had only covered about 300 miles since the rebuild so I kept the boost low as a precaution.

Jon,
you might want to mention (maybe as a sidebar note) the gravel track at Blyton. If you are not too precious about the car it is a great opportunity to start learning to drive on the loose stuff. Just this very basic track gives you a great insight to how different tarmac and gravel racing are - though last time it was a bit too muddy even for me - even got mud on the roll cage and seats!!
Dave
PS: just been out for a shake down in the floods tonight for a 12 car Monday night. Very interesting conditions, totally flooded roads, large amounts of standing water and leaves and mud - excellent practice.

Hi Jon,
just got back from hols and had a chance to look through the disk - looks like I am driving through a ploughed field
I think Tractor Monthly might make use of the pictures - not Banzai!
The shots are great - many thanks
