Keep it or move on ?
I'm a bit unsure what to do at the moment. I've been offered a deal on this against my all conquering EVO VII. The spec list is quite stunning:
The car has done 40,000 miles and has only done 3000km since the engine rebuild, this was done a year ago now.
Oil and filter change has been done recently, Redline Engine Oil and Redline Gear/Diff Oil is always used.
Power
The car is running 582bhp@wheels at 1.6bar, 440ft lbs Torque on super unleaded fuel.
Modifications
HKS T51R Turbo
HKS Damper Pulley Kit
HKS 264 Inlet Cam Step 2

The car looks to me, quite simply stunning, with a great deal of power to match the looks.
so, open to you lot then. What do you think ?
If I did go for it,I'm not sure how on earth I'd manage to insure it, but thats not really a worry at the moment.
the main concern is loosing my 4 year old 36k miles car for a 10 year old car, albeit with a fairly recent engine, but I'm sure its quite highly stressed so I'd have to put some money aside incase things did go pear shaped
oh, and also wether it'll fit in the garage or not
and before you ask ... not bloody cheap
hope to read your input
cheers
Phil

Should be OK for the traffic light GP but what about "normal" running if you're not on a drag strip?
Bet you can't get much in it from the weekly shop at Tescos and what fuel does it need to suit the fire-breathing mapping etc
How long before Dave wants a run in it?

Like all machines at this sort of spec level, you have to be sure it is what you want. I remember speaking to Chris with the 550bhp bugeye down at Ladybower and asking him how much fun he'd had on the way down over Strines, and he replied "NONE !" He said there was simply too much power going through too stiff a chassis and suspension. He could only accelerate in a straight line, and this still frightened him on the wet/gritty moorland roads. He had to brake well before every crest/dip as the suspension was so hard that he risked snapping things. If it lost traction the power would spin up the engine so fast that he risked trashing the gearbox. Overall, everybody elses cars with 220-320 bhp and near normal set-ups were quicker and more fun on this instance, and presumably most of the time in normal situations. They are a toy which live on the strip, and parked up for everyone to ogle.
In a similar vein, Knobby's old 355 struggled on the Burnsall run as it was simply the wrong place for it. On fast flowing A-roads he'd have shown us all his tail pipes, but when the going got tight, twisty, undulating and slippery the qualities of the Scoobs/Evo's shone through. Even Steve has chopped the Noble in and returned to the fold.
Your choice, but I prefer to look at these cars, enjoy the workmanship and engineering, and gasp as they blat down the strip. I wouldn't want to be loading it onto the trailer in the evening, mopping up the oil from whatever's blown up and driving to work in a TDi 'cos after 2 months I realised it simply was a stupid car for everyday use.

well I've had a good hard think about this and decided to keep my EVO. I cant really justify the money for a 10 year old car with a highly stressed engine, add to the fact that I probably couldnt use it every day and not have a bad back.
thanks for all you input on the thread and at the last meet
thanks again

Good choice Phil
the skyline is truly an awsome awe inspiring machine, But practical usable not for every day use, that particular version seems to have been bulit for the 1/4 mile,
We know you like the twisties, If you were buying it for a show car and the odd display run then yes, but to be completely honest I would have said nope!! just like you have...
Nice decision Mate
