Default House purchase - HELP!!!

On Friday, after many months of waiting, and the reason my Impreza had to go , I complete on my first house purchase . . .

So to all you house owners within the WYIOC, what do I need to do

Phone BT, Water, Gas and Electric suppliers, Council Tax?

Anyone else I need to contact?

Any recommendations for Gas, electric and phone/broadband?

I would ask at the meet on Thursday . . .but I won't be there as celebrating being 25

Btw anyone have access to a van to fit a sofa in?

If you're moving, then pop into the post office and pay for 6 months mail redirection... All mail intended for your old address gets parcelled up and sent through every few days yo yournew one..

IIRC 6 months is £30. I belive you can also pay for 1, 3 or 12 months...

Good luck!!

Remember to take your old meter readings from where you are now if applicable and do the same for the new house, that way you won't be charged for gas/elec/water that's not yours.

I use Tiscali broadband, it's cheap enough and fast enough too. Your best bet for gas and elec is to use the same supplier for both so you get a dual fuel discount, and if you pay by monthly DD you know exactly what your outgoings are so you're not hit with a big bill. I am with British Gas for both and I've had no problems with them whatsoever.

If you've got your own place at the mo don't forget to cancel window cleaners/milkman etc.

Remember to tell DVLA you've moved both for car and driving licence so you don't get fined!

That's all I can think of for now!

I USE NPOWER FOR GAS AND ELECTRIC AND PAY BY DIRECT DEBIT - THEY GIVE YOU £50 BACK EVERY YEAR FOR DOING THAT. AND THEY ARE CHEAPER THAN MOST.

DO YOU MAIL REDIRECTION FOR EITHER 6 MONTHS OR MORE AS SOME COMPANIES ONLY WRITEI TOYOU ONCE A YEAR AND YOU DONT WANNA HAVE YOUR PERSONAL STUFF FOR THE NEW PEOPLE TO READ STILL BEING DELIVERED TO YOUR OLD HOUSE.

I ALSO USE WANADOO FOR MY BROADBAND - NEVER HAD A PROBLEMA ND THEY ARE ALWAYS REALLY HELPFUL IF YOU NEED THEM.

THANKS
TRACY

All relevant insurances, car, life, pensions etc.
As Jo said, energy supply is best with both from one and paid DD, but be warned that the cheapest supplier suggested by uswitch.com today may not be the cheapest tomorrow. We all know that BG & Powergen recently put their prices up significantly, but all the others will follow sooner or later. Many will hold out to get people signed up to their current pricing but sneakily offer no fix on the price, and then they'll bump it up just like the rest.
Any regular subscriptions, magazines, clubs etc.

While all the above is good sound advice, first things first.........................

1. Purchase 24 stella's
2. Get fridge plugged in
3. Place said stella's in coolest part

Then you can do all the other stuff....................

Cos when you've finished you'll need one..................or two

Good Luck

I feel a housewarming coming up, with his all new gas BBQ

PS. Got the gas, and a regulator in case yours is the wrong type.
