Selling advice!
Me again!
I've never sold a car privately before so I don't know what the etiquette is! Had a call last night from an Asian guy that wants to come look at it. Having read the horror stories on SNet I am loathe to give out my address just in case anyone decides to come back and try and break in for my keys.
Do you think it would be acceptable to meet the guy somewhere initially and if he seems genuine and wants to buy it then give him my address to sort paperwork etc out?
Also I would want to see his driving licence and insurance if he wanted to test drive it cos how do I know he can drive and is insured to drive it!?!?
Am I being too over-anxious here? My theory is that if they are a genuine buyer they will understand but I don't know!!

Jo, I always arranged to have someone handy with me and then made out that I would meet them outside my place of work, the local Police station, as I came off shift A white lie, but it will make them think twice if they are up to no good.
As for test drives, I allowed people a quick drive in mine on a straight and safe road where an accident would be unlikely. People don't like to buy cars they've never driven unfortunately. When changing seats, always turn off the engine and remove the key, handing it to them when you are safely back in the car. Take your handy friend with you if the buyer is alone. If he brings a mate, leave the buyers mate and your handy friend at your place so's they are split up. Before they drive it read them the riot act. Redline it and you're walking home. Take unnecessary risks, likewise. Remind them that at this time it is still YOUR car, and you expect it to be driven with respect.
Whenever the car is running but not being driven ensure a Disklock or similar is fitted, and keep the key separate. Do not take any of the documents on the test drive.
