You can sod your Scoobs and Evos, nothing on earth sounds better than a MK2 rally car having it's ***** ragged off

I appreciate that the car is far from being eligible for the London to Brighton car run...and I think it's pedigree is awesome....... but......

It just doesn't cut it like a modern day car does in looks, presence or performance... I'd still own one mind...

...and there speaks a chap who's obviously never owned one.

You had to be there, and evidently several of us were, and were the right age at the right time.

Doubtless it's a crock of poo next to today's technological AWD monsters, but it aint always about the BHP figures and how fast you can go round bends.

I was the right age.... but was lucky enough to have a fairly new V6 Granada as my first car (bought from my Dad because he needed the money) then straight to a Mk1 XR2 as my first 'proper' car that I bought myself....

The XR2 was awesome for a teenager at the time and I remember the feeling walking up to it everyday.... I remember it with much fondness as I lusted after the XR3i and RS1600i. I aslo remember the 205 1.9 GTI with more fondness as that was a seriously quick GTI (for its day) and exciting to drive.

But no matter how much sentiment and fondness I have, there's no way I'd go back to those day's unless I was lucky enough to have one as a toy.. I did say I'd own the Escort as I'd never experienced it... but it would be an amusing toy..

We're in 2006 and the technology and cars nowadays offer sooo much more... No doubt I'll look back to the T20 with fondness when I'm nipping about in the F430 or Lambo

...which will be 20 years old, and the equivalent of a Testiclerossa, nice, but able to be embarassed by a moderately tuned Jap 4 door saloon.

I would love a MK2, and yes it would be a toy. But what a toy. Not saying I'd have one instead of a Scoob or Evo, but it would be nice to have the choice of which one to go to work in on a morning
