Thanks for the replies, i live in Brierley. Got a Jap import WRX in Silver on a M plate (I think they call it a classic) got a few mods on it. Wanted one this shape for years, a bit of a step up from my Saxo VTS.Picked it up on Monday absloutely love it, just need to get it converted to MPH. Will try to get along on the 26, think i'm on days that week.

Welcome
If it hasn't been converted to MPH, then it more than likely hasn't been remapped for UK fuel, so use V-Power (or similar supers) and octane booster until/if you get it done. JDM cars are mapped for their superior 100RON fuel.
As the guys said above, membership is £10, but voluntary. You can just show up and enjoy, but it feels better to contribute and help the club grow, with the funds going towards things like gazebo's, BBQ's, our very own track-car, food and drink for members at events etc.
Hope to see you at the meets, if I can make it these days....busy, busy, busy

Hi, little thread hijack here. I'm likely to be buying a scoob in the near future. In all my recent previous cars (FTO, TVR, MK Indy) I've joined the relevant owners club, and will plan to do the same with the scoob. I've obviously heard of the SIDC in general, but only recently discovered the existence of the WYIOC.
I realise I'm going to get a biased opinion here but as a yorkshire fella am I better off with the WY club? Can someone (as impartially as possible) point out the differences and relative merits of each?
Also do either (or both) of the clubs tend to incur insurance reductions in general (I know I've had reductions in the past as OC member). I've already had a pretty good quote from A-Plan but will joining either club get me another 5-10% off?
Thanks, Sy
(stands back and watches can of worms open!)

Sy, no deals for the WYIOC I'm afraid, but A-Plan do excellent prices for Scoobs, and Keith Michaels (MoleyWRX on here(Garry Moleson)) do good deals for Scoobynet people.
SIDC have been running much longer and are a much more formal and better organised crowd. They are mainly based in the south east however, with a small presence in some other areas but nothing in Yorkshire AFAIK. We are more laid back, and we love it that way.

Sy. Impartiallity, is my middle name...
WYIOC - We position ourself purpously as a highly informal Club where members are encouraged to get stuck in to organise or arrange anything they like for the enjoyment of other members. We have no formal committee, but we do have a few core, long standing members who look after funds and membership and who organise a large bulk of the events.
We also let people know we're not a Mcdonalds cruise and are mature in age and approach. The informal nature has meant some good, long standing friendships have formed and I can say without bias that everyone will go out of their way to help another member. In some ways (and events), the cars have taken second place to simply having a good time. You may have noticed that we laugh at ourselves regularly and take the pi55 at every opportunity..
Probably most importantly our runs, doo's and events are arranged by club members for club members and not for the promotion of the club. The club is the vehicle to get some outstanding people together......
The SIDC are a long standing, highly organised & proffessionaly run national club with local organisations. I can say that we were once asked to look at becoming a formal SIDC regional group, but we declined due to the extra organisation and formality required to run such a group under SIDC guidelines. From the clubs website you can see that they are able to provide much wider tangible benefits; The aims of the club are:
The SIDC is affiliated with the RAC Motor Sport Association which will allow us to organise 12 car rallies and hold track days at some of the more famous circuits.
The SIDC's local West Yorkshire prescence is small compared to the South & Scotland where large groups form under the SIDC banner. At one show this year, Nostell Priory Jap show, the SIDC stand had one car where we had 20+. However, this small prescence is made up by the fact that events are organised country wide and a lot of effort goes into promoting the club to best represent Subaru drivers across the UK.
Both clubs are therefore completely different in nature.
I can only speak for the WYIOC in this instance, but as Dave put it... we are laid back, relaxed and enjoy the club the way it is and we don't feel a a more formal approach will make us any better....

Just a small correction, Al. At Thorseby they had quite a few cars on the stand, but that was the one where Mr Mudd spat his dummy out.
They had just one car flying the flag at Nostell Rising Sun Sunday.

The WYIOC are simply a brilliant club, based not only on cars, but friendship, if you have a particular craving for an event put a taster thread up to gain interest and organise away.
The WYIOC's club stands are always excellent with a great variety of cars and colours next year the WYIOC (certain members) will be participating in some 1/4 mile and track events too, this will give our club even more prestige when attending events.
You don't have to sit bored waiting for something to take shape, as in waiting for an official club event organiser to put something together, you can gladly put something together yourself, with the help advice and backing from core members. (If needed)
We don't bitch about other clubs and their stands vicinity to ours, we are confident in the cars we have but ultimately the members and friendships we have, win or not quite win, a laugh is guaranteed.
Other car clubs in west yorkshire!! can't really comment I am a member of the biggest and IMO the best Subaru one
I do belive we need to revisit subs though, more so given members competing next year and the potential priviledged parking that will bring......
Cant wait for 2007 already

as for the club not offering, anything. st ledgers will give all wyioc members, a 10%/15% discount and will give all customers a wyioc membership card. im also talking to an ins company for good discounts to all members. and i think we should look at a new venue. to intice more scooby owners from the doncaster area. the road to the foxglove is nice. but if all members were to turn up and any other club came to see us it would be differcult to house all. i would like to offer and maybe ask sticky to make some sort of membership card with a number on to gain these discounts comments pls

Oh yeah, Robert Bowetts also do a 10% discount for us
I get what you say about The Foxglove. When we chose it they were fairly quiet and it looked such a nice pub with good routes to and from, with quick access to the south Yorks roads we love. It has since proven to be less than ideal as it is a consistently busy pub, making it awkward to accommodate our growing crowd. The Trading Post was better for accommodating us, but lacked any good roads and had appalling service. If it is time to rethink the venue then a new thread would be a good start I think.
