Whereas iTunes doesn't take over anything on a PC?
"iTunes has detected that it is no longer the default player for XYZ media, do you wish to change this?"
Nope?
Tough, it's gonna happen anyway.
It managed to last about 23 hours on my laptop before it was sent packing.
Just looking round I have a Sony DSC, Sony DV cam, 2 Sony TVs and a few other bits which I can't bring to mind.
But then I'm no technophile.

Their products on the whole are pretty good at consumer level, and excellent at professional levels. They have never bothered too much, and had little success when they have at specialist consumer equipment. They now have a tendency to rest on their laurels as recently (last 5 years) their products have been only just above average, as they have suffered since a cost-cutting exercise saw them close many of their own production facilities in favour of outsourcing. I myself have had several Sony products over the years, all of which have been very good. A TV, tuner, PS1 and my current phone all spring to mind.
My problem with Sony in the last decade is the way they use their might to force their will. They bought up huge chunks of the music industry to ensure the success of CD and Walkman, and yet were found crying in their milk when they woefully misjudged the market with SACD (failure) and were shown their @ss by the iPod and iTunes. They now own most of Hollywood in a bid to ensure once more that they can force consumers to follow their line with BlueRay.
The most shocking examples of their appalling attitude was Rootkit (do a Google), but if they were to have had their way with BR and the PS3 then we would have had our rights as consumer seriously restricted. They wanted to have the players embed information onto the disc the first time it was inserted into any player, restricting its use in any other player, ever. You wouldn't be able to watch your movie on the machine upstairs without buying another copy. You certainly wouldn't be able to lend it to a mate, or even flog it on eBay when you got bored of it. Same with games. The embedded info would also show up on any subsequent pirate copy made from an original source, making it easy to track down exactly who made it.
I don't like that kind of control, which is why I don't like Sony and stay clear of them.
