Default WYIOC - Change of Venue & Direction Discussion

OK.. After a few phone calls, PM's and Dave's C's post, I think it's time to look for a different venue... I'd also like to to look at a club shake up to both re-invent us and keep things from getting stale and safe.. We don't want stale and safe now do we?

The club continues to grow and there's been many ideas and willing participants in wanting to make things happen (IOM trip & newsletter anyone?), but the take up was small and slow.

Everyone also talks about bigger a better attendences at the major shows.

So.. In summary.. I believe the club needs to move forward by growing up with the wants, wishes and needs for those members who are chomping at the bit to make the club bigger and better.

We have a good start in the money Mark E donated for the gayzebo, we now have a club track car and club van to transport all the neccessary kit to and from wherever.. These are serious club items that now need serious attention and a more rounded and official front.

I did not say more formal in any of those paragraphs as we'll stay away from the clipboard.. but what we do need now is for members to step forward and take on more responsibility and to focus their abilities in driving the club forward (pun intended )

Dave Carter has taken the role of 'The Enforcer' and has been instrumental in some great & bigger ideas.

Now, this may worry certain people as the club gathers momentum and pace.. We may loose people who think the club is going the wrong way.. what I would say is watch and see. Rest assured, I do not want to loose the unique spirit in the club and want to keep the essence of the clubs dynamic feel, tied to good freindships and some brilliant events and doos.

So.. I propose another EGM in November at the Fox Glove EOM to pull together your ideas and suggestions.. post them here by all means.. but one main item will be to find a new location....

I'll start things off..

New Venue - Must have a good open car park and offers good food and drink... Pool & football tables will be an advantage as the early cold nights will mean some competitions.. We'll set a date to visit them as we did on the last move from the trading post to the FG. Remember it has to be South(ish) of Leeds (Westish & Eastish are also good) so that everyone can make it easily with the Motorway links...

Subs - New sub structure. Three membership ptions.. Gold, Silver, Bronze. Gold pays most and has specific benefits like prime spots etc on stands etc and has first refusal on limited events... Silver - Round about subs now that offer second refusal etc.. Bronze - No payment but welcome member at any event.

Core members - Not a committee, but a bunch of guys & gals willing to take responsibility for club interests. Simon is happy to do Treasurer and Mick / Dave are organisation contacts. Dave C / Sticky are Secretary... Simon - Website and media. Aileen & Jim - newlsetter (still a great idea and needs suppoprt from you all).... All these positions need support. Anyone for deputy chair????????????????????

I'm keeping this open on an open BB because we're not hiding things away here.. the club operates openly and is willing to show it's colours rather than hide things away in behind door meetings....

You know what you get with us..

Do Squires have a quiet night on the last Thursday?

It may just be into North Yorks, wouldn't know for sure without checking a map.

Was just going to suggest Squires.....

Last Thurs of month is usually fairly quiet at squires, sometimes only ones in,apart from odd biker....

Last club we were in used to use this night and the guy who owns squires used to let us have run of top car parks....

This club as now expired so no problem there with two clubs same night thingy.....

Close to M1/A1....

Good food (heard the cornish's are great there... )

Friendly and family orrinated.....

Just my 2 penneth.....

Not too bothered if it's on the border as the venue is made for petrol heads and has a good run up there... Good car park.. not up itself in anyway (always feels welcoming with a freindly atmosphere) and provides good wholesome nosh with good coffee and beer for those not driving...

It also has plenty of visitng like minded folk (I do get the feeling we're a nuisance at the FG) who'll enjoy some good banter and a looksee at the cars if we get the top car park to ourselves.. possible new members too...

As you can see.. It gets my vote...

Does anyone know the owner well and can call him to see if the last Thursday is acceptable?

Only know him from chatting during the few times I've been ordering at the bar, but he seems like a thouroughly decent bloke.

I'll try and get over some time this week if you like, or we could have an impromptu before Thursday to give us something to discuss at the meet.

You are joking aren't you? Have you seen how far we'd have to come if you move?
Google Maps
Bugger!

And if you're having another one of your meetings this thursday, not much point in us all coming over is there this month?

Hope it goes well, I feel we'll be needing a similar meeting in the new year

Chris, the meeting is in November...

The new venue does possibly put a dampner on your visits.. which is the downside to moving any further East of where we are now.....

Nice one Mark. More details here....

The Sun Inn, Harrogate - Pub Directory UK, your one stop Pub guide in the UK

But it may be too far North to allow a quick arrival..... but certainly looks an interesting 'run to' pub...

Sounds a good idea, whats the structure for the cost of membership going to be? Are you not having any PLATINUM members.

Like it, like it... Every pound gets you a new level... start off with paper, plastic, tin.... build up to Zircon, Ruby, Diamond... then to Nuclear, Galactic, Stellar, Nova with an Ad-Infinitum badge for those special special members...

Spoken to Harry @ Squires Cafe, hes a lovely chap....

He's checked the diary and they do not have another car club booked in for the last Thursday of each month, he is happy to accommodate us all together in the top car park....

A few rules to go by (his words not mine)
No wheel spinning or acting about
Be nice to staff at all times
Book in with Harry,Jason or Sue for the following month whilst we are there (gives them plenty of chance to get the extra Pasties in for Scott)

and no they dont have magners..... but they do have Strongbow

If you want to go ahead let me know and I will ring him and pencil us in for next month.

POB

The Sun is indeed a cracking pub, but with so many members from the south and east of Leeds, getting them over to the north west in a reasonable driving time would possibly deter, especially as the nights grow dark, cold and wet. Plenty to choose from once you're beyond Otley, and if someone will lend me a Scoob I know an excellent guide who knows the area like the back of his hand

I'm sure there's a 'Chairman's special bung award' sitting somewhere ... maybe call this the Hyperdrive membership...

Geddit?
