Talking Trackdays in 2007 - Gauging Interest

Following the trips to Cadwell and Elvington last weekend there appears to be a good number of folks here interested in track days.

My own intentions are to visit a variety of tracks next year to get experience and make the most of the car - now I have taken the modification plunge.

So I thought it might be useful to do a quick poll of who is interested and which are you three favourite tracks to visit. My own experience is rather limited to Croft, Castle Combe and Cadwell so far, (plus Elvington & Blyton).

Take a look at this site and let me know you three favourites to visit next year:
Circuit Driver - Dunlop UK Circuit Guide in association with Motorsport News
Circuit Driver - Circuit Information.

I will start the ball rolling with Donnington, Oulton Park and Knockhill.

Interested in track days just need plenty off notice to sort out work schedule. Ps if you ever fancy trip back to Castle Combe my brother runs a pub with several B+B rooms and he said he will do a deal for us. I was down there last weekend and most of their open track days are on weekdays not weekends. (Pub is only 10mins from Castle Combe).

What mods have you done to car seems you have a safety cage from pictures posted.

Castle Coombe is 10 minutes from my parents and where I was brought up - beautiful part of the world but the track is rather flat, being an airfield course. Still it is a challenge, and it would allow me to combine a visit to my folks - plus the one time I have driven around was in the instructors cars not my own (rather dull).

The car has got AST 3 way race suspension, Whiteline front and rear anti roll bars, plus the anti lift kit. Brake pads upgraded to Pagid on the front and TarOx on the rear. Goodridge s/s brake hoses all round. Has a 6 point bolt in cage with door and harness bars (custom built by Caged), with Cobra Evolution race seat and Schroth 6 point harness (these go in for track days only). Tyres are Toyo Proxes 888 on 17" rims (unless its standing water then the Toyo T1Rs are put on)

Engine has standard PPP - nothing else - at the moment

So far we have:

Red Man
Stuart 148
S3emo123
DaveSTi350
Mark-Spark
Jon C (I know he is up for this, even if he has not posted yet)

Forgot to mention that these would have to be at the weekend - unless there was a special trip (Spa or the Ring anybody). I would also need to plan ahead, and quite happy to do the small amount of legwork.

So if anybody wants to get their car on track put your name down. If you are a track day virgin you will get all the helpful advice and support you need - I remember my first ever day sat in the pitlane at Croft - makes you feel alive thats for sure.

So maybe we could celebrate 2006 with an end of year track day:

Friday 29th December at Donnington on the national circuit (inc the Cramer Curves) £99 for the day, but not open pit lane (i.e. 20 mins session per hour). I reckon this will give us 5 or 6 sessions - but the price is good.

The day is nominated an unsilenced "loud session" so even those with drainpipes on board should be ok.

Go to Donington Park Online for more info.

Let me know if interested.

Good idea, Dave - I reckon I'll be up for this. Anglesey is also worth a visit and I would love to try Knockhill sometime - I've been round as a passenger in an STi and looked like fun to me!

Oulton Park also sounds good, only spectated there so far. Another local track that's often forgotten is Teesside Autodrome. It's a modern, challenging circuit and track time there is often much cheaper than some of the bigger venues. Worth thinking about for next year maybe?

So I have cleared the 29th Dec with the family - sales day for the missus was the deal if anybody wants ideas for the going rate

I suggest we do what we did at Cadwell, book direct, this time at the Donnington site Donington Park Online- I will be putting my name down in the next couple of days - £99 for the day plus £2.25 booking fee..

You can also book an ARDS instructor for £35 - which I plan to do as this is my first trip to Donnington.

Now then lets get TOCA out and practice the Craner Curves - they feel bloody exciting on the PS2.

Thumbs up

Okay Guys - end of the week now, so I will be booking for the 29th December on the Donnington circuit site over the weekend.

Because this is not open pitlane we will need to decide which group to be in if we wish to run together. I suggest Intermediate as a compromise for different members - and also for me as I am new to the circuit.

I will also open a new thread just for the Donnington trip and keep this one for ideas about subsequent trips.

Dave

ps: if its snows on the 29th I'm taking the 205 and the gravel tyres
