Squires Xmas Meet - This Thursday 21st - ALL Welcome!!
The History of Xmas... aah
The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. The WYIOC love it so much we plan several doo's just so we can enjoy the snow, rain, wind and icy corners...well... some of us do.
Centuries before the arrival of the man called Jesus, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Even today, Yorkshire has only had electricity for a few years and we can regularly see Sticky & the Crafts', who live in the darkest reaches of Yorkshire land turning their electric powered lanterns on and off in wonderment. Because they are even more backward, due to their weird location across the pennines, Electricity will soon become part of the SMACS lives. We look forward to seeing their reddy glow as they come across the hills again.. telling stories of how their lives are so much better due to Electricity.
As Dave & I are from the Midlands..technology is nothing to be scared of and Dave Carter can be regularly seen with his phone to his ear calling me.. or someone else for long, long periods...
Many peoples rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight. Big Dave W has planned a few summer solstice runs..but he should plan them for winter.. simply because no one ever goes, because they're all working or on holiday.. one day he'll get it right..
We see this solstice celebration happening now as we all gather round planning the NBO for June and wishing July was here tomorrow, so that we can go go to the F1 testing..
In SMACS & Hull lands, they still celebrate Yule from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, which some still prey to. CW42 & his fellows bring home large logs to the SMAC meet, which they would set on fire. They dance around until the log is burned out, which could take as many as 12 days. If you listen carefully enough.. the bells attached to their legs & arms can be can be heard many miles away...
The ESC lads on the other hand believe that each spark from the fire represents a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year. MickWRX also wishes this too as the smell of Baiken gets him going, and no mistake...
The end of December was a perfect time for celebration in most areas of Scooby land. At that time of year, most EVO's were slaughtered so they would not have to be fed during the winter. Sorry.. that should be cows. But you could replace that with the EVO as that's best put in hibernation ready for the 2007 servicing season..
In addition at this time of year, most wine and beer made during the year was finally fermented and ready for drinking. But it seldom made the table as it was Hijacked by POB & JB and was usually drunk before the last bubbles had risen...Scott would be seen too drunk from the last load to even notice this fresh batch...
Obviously I've picked on people and clubs at random for cheap laffs.. of course...not all of this is true and I've added lots for both comedy value and to make the story more believable.. for example.. the SMACS log would burn for 10 day not 12. So cut me some slack and throw me a frickin bone...
If we're lucky.. very lucky.. we'll see some SMACS lads as they make the treacherous trek across the mountains... probably to punch me in the face.. but hopefully we'll see some new faces too as they sample the superb WYIOC friendliness and banter... Just don't call Stu gay.. or question his manhood.. OK?
So.. come along and say Hi and see JB's burn and huge sausage that he hangs out of the front of his trousers..
Come along also and see Matt grinning from ear to ear.. It may even be big enough knock his hair out place.. but I doubt it..
Manda & Bubba Po may make a final come back and we may even get to see Knobby & Helen..**cough**
But rest assured.. the place will be busy and the last 2 pasties are MINE!!!!
We'll Leave The Trading Post, Castelford, at 7:15 for the convoy in...
Park in the top car park... ta..

There's a way around it which would involve having no DVD menu - but I'm determined to get it working. It's become personal.
Bah humbug.
