That's probably no too far off the mark..Mark....
Have you tried A-Plan? They do their calculations that has some weight on experience and ability, rather than the car. They also know their cars as the guy that did mine, Rob, knew what a T20 was.
So with a clean license and an accident free 5 yrs, they may surprise you...
Ask for Rob (if he's still there) and mention you're with the club (and my T20). It may help with recognising that you associate with old duffers** and get you few quid knocked off...
**I am of course referring to Craftsy...

Try A Plan, they were the best for me. Since joining them my missus, my son and my dad are with them plus we have also got our house insurance with them too. Cheaper than anywhere else we have tried.

A-plan are good but alas Rob is no longer there, Still worth a go though.
I got the best quote for my clio matched and they knocked £5 off plus courtesy car, legal cover, protected no claims.
They even gave me an existing customer discount although my policy had run out the previous month.
They are good for me
Also defo tell them about your driving experience/car ownership record.

I'd recommend A Plan, A Plan or A Plan.
tbh if it's totally std WRX as you say you shouldn't need to go to a specialist to get a good deal, Direct Line are very competitive, call centres are UK and they're pretty professional.
If you've got mods / thinking of them don't waste your time with mainstream insurers as they haven't a clue what you're talking about and will either charge you a fortune or not correctly insure you for the mods you've got or more likely both of these!
I was with Subaru Insured before A Plan who were quite good as they have special PPP rates and they understand what it is. However I initially thought they were very good and got to speak to a small team of knowledgeable people with a personal touch however towards the end this seemed to have been transferred to a call centre full of ******** so I took my business elsewhere.
IF you're going to mod A Plan are very sensible about it - 50 quid extra for new headers and remap which I think is fair. Other stuff I've done they've not charged me any extra and waived the admin fee.
Crucially I think Al was very happy when he actually had to make a claim with A Plan - anyone could charge you a cheap fee if they didn't sort your claim out properly for you!

I must agree that they were quick, efficient and resolved it without any fuss, bother or worry on my part.. That itself is worth a few bob over the top.
I'd also agree that if you have an import or any mods to your car, then that will rule you out of 95% of Normal insurers. Also, if your car doesn't come up excatly on their database, or you don't get in writing their agreement that it's not an exact match, then you run the serious risk of having the insurance being void when you come to claim...
Most of the insurers I spoke to only had a few Impreza variants... I think the RB5 & p1 were the only ones that were any where near 'non standard'.. anything else simply wouldn't register..
