Been waiting for this and will probably go see it next week. I've heard a rumour that they may be showing it on the Imax screen at Bradford, although I can't find any details of this yet. Loved the previous Frank Miller adaptation, Sin City.

Scoobyblue... Last Thursday of the month.. check out the 'stickies' in this area, look through posts here and you'll see loads going on... you'll be made very welcome...
It worked very well on the screen, but what you probably have to know is that they were interpreting the graphical novel a lot more closely than instead of doing a Spiderman or X-Men film. So there were shots that were film adaptations of the novel with the same angles and representation...
Dave - Not seen sin city, but this was an excellent film.. much better than the X-men type films as they stayed truer to the original graphic novel...
This would be awesome on IMax as the fight scenes were incredible.. all slow motion too.. not hiding stuff in darkness or speed...

Saw Sin City with no preconceptions, other than knowing it was based upon a graphic novel.
What an absolutely stunning bit of cinematography.
Well worth checking out.

Al, I can lend you the R1 DTS Recut, Extended, Unrated version of Sin City if you want (you'll need a multiregion player). To show how closely they followed the comic book on that click HERE. There's a section for each part of the movie (took in 4 (or was it 5 ) of Millers books).
Andy, have you seen the greenscreen run through (at high speed) which shows how much of the film was added using CGI later ? Eye-opening...

As above I can HIGHLY recommend Sin City, cannae believe you haven't already stumbled across it. If you don't have a Region 1 player I've got the Region 2 if you want to borrow it.
Make sure the kids don't walk in on it though - very very violent.
Rutget Hauer's only decent role in the last god knows how many years too - shame he's only in it for 2 mins.
Very much looking forward to Rodriquez / Tarantinos double bill Grindhouse movie in the summer - looking awesome so far.

I agree whole heartedly, “Sin City” is a superb film if I may be so bold to add my thoughts.
"Sin City" is film noir amped like nobody's business. Imagine the perverse fiction of Jim Thompson and Cornell Woolrich crossed with S&M/fetish art and the exaggerated bravado and punchy prose of "Pulp Fiction" and you're halfway there. Lifted almost intact from the graphic novels of Frank Miller, the movie is a directorial collaboration between Miller and innovative filmmaking maverick Robert Rodriguez. The comic book's style and substance get transferred directly to the screen through the digital cinematography and greenscreen technique Rodriguez pioneered in his "Spy Kids" series, right down to the silhouetted, black-and-white cityscape, absurd caricatures and stylized violence.
can't wait to go see 300, trailer looks and sounds amazing

Is that your thoughts or Kirk Honeycutt's
Not sure about Grindhouse as I've never bought into the Tarantino thing. I've watched his films but never been that impressed. Shock for shocks sake a lot of the time. Rodriguez shows more ability for me, as long as he doesn't get himself too tied to Tarantino. Sin City 2 and 3 are scheduled for an '08 release.

Sin City 2 = Sin City + Angelina Jolie (allegedly)
can't ask for more than that.
Re Tarantino as Alan Partridge would say "You're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong" . Not really the violence that does it more the dialogue and approach to film making.
Think I'll be off to see 300 this weekend

Sin City is THE best comic to film production so far!
Well written, IMO the perfect cast for the characters, Nobody could've played Marv better then Mickey Rouke!
The best line: "Is that the best you can do you pansies?!"
Oh and.....Jessica Alba
I want to see 300 myself, I've read mixed reviews of it but I will hold out my judgement until I see it. From what I have seen of the trailer, it certainly looks impressive IMO.

The green-screen run through is at high speed with the whole movie over in about 8 minutes, but it gives you a good insight into how it was made. The recut bit allows you to watch each of the stories individually. Worth buying for the DTS surround alone. You also get a copy of the Marv story book.
