Subaru Detailing Day

Subaru Detailing Day
Any interest in this we need about 10 cars as the warmer weather is here, getting the tar and winter muck off the cars, should involve the following in leeds near the airport..Photo location???
generally a good day out to see new products that are available and keeping cars clean,
can we get some feedback for this and poss dates some time after Blyton might be good..thanks
here is what happened at the last club car detail they did..
08.00 this morning, 10 Vectra-C's rolled into our yard. Not everyone attending was aware of what to expect from such a day. My primary mission for today to demonstrate what a great and rewarding pastime detailing can be, and hopefully convert a few of the Vectra-C forum to our ways.
Our team -
Me
Ant GTi-6
Dave KG
Brl 123 (both came all the way from Dundee to assist, what a pair of stars )
One John Sheridan
The star that is Tommy.
I didn't take as many photo's as planned, but do know that one or two others will be along to upload their pics to this thread.
The plan had been originally to treat every vehicle exactly the same, using the same products and procedures.
The wash -
Lower sections pre-treated with Chemical Guy's Citrus wash diluted 10 parts water to 1 part Citrus Wash. This left to dwell for 5 minutes to give it chance to soften and loosen any bonded grime.
The vehicle then foamed using the Gilmour, with Snow Foam: Maxi Suds and the Gilmour set to 128:1
The vehicle then rinsed using just the Gilmour trigger sprayer.
The vehicle then carefully hand washed using the excellent shMITT using a 1 bucket (with grit guard insert) and Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash n Gloss as shampoo.
The wheels cleaned using just a double strength shampoo mix, apart from one set cleaned using Chemical Guys Grim Reaper APC.
All cars rinsed, then the tyres and inner arches dressed using Meguiar's Hyper Dressing.
We took the car's up to the shop ready for a bit of saturday detailing fun -
Dave KG using the Metabo, Edge 2000 sytem 8" pads and Menzerna 106FF to deswirl a bonnet -
This Vectra suffering from industrial fallout, so we kitted him out with a vinyl glove, bottle of last touch and bar of Sonus Green clay. Infact a lot of the Vectra C guy's popped their clay cherries with us today-
Ant doing a bit of defect removal by PC under the watchful eye of the owner -
We broke for an early lunch, I provided fish n chips for the 16. Tommy reckons the old lady stood behind him in the queue was non too happy-
The Vectra guy's all seemed happy enough though -
AJA one of many to trial out the EDGE 2000 kit today, this time by PC though as he cleaned his paint using Chemical Guy's All In One Polish.-
Ant applying the Chemical Guy's EZ Glaze to a pair of Silver Vec C's by PC-
Tommy nicked all the dust caps, whilst coating all of the wheels with Chemical Guy's wheel guard, OJS helping the owner layer a coat or two of Chemical Guy's factory sealant. The dark Vectra getting a coat of Chemical Guy's Crystal Wet glaze by PC -
The star of the show being Brl 123 applying Swissvax cleaner fluid by Metabo using a super soft EDGE 2000 white finishing pad -

First off was washing and my first proper go of the Wash Schmitt... its certainly a robust feeling wash mitt and looks like it would outlast a standard lambswool washmitt and was nice to use, though personally I do actually prefer the lambswool mitt as to me they just feel "right", and the Schmitt feels odd being just foam with no realy pile to take dirt away from the paintwork... I will need to try out one much more closely as these do look like they could be very promising, but my personal preference is the lambswool mitts, but then these things are always down to personal preference at the end of the day.
Next up, some rotary work on a black Vectra bonnet which started the day like this:
This was my first go of the Metabo and I have to say I am very impressed with the tool... It feels very nice to use, is very light and is easy to control with one exeption - why oh why is the speed control low down on the back?! Its the one bug bear I have with the PC, and I did find that awkward compared to the very easy to use Makita speed control... Like many others who have Makitas, I found adjusting to the Metabo a little awkward at first but once used to it I certainly appreciated it as a tool, espeically its light weight... Compared to the Makita I own, they both have their advantages and disadvantages (Makita is comparitively, Metabo speed contol is IMVHO badly placed [not again that these are just peronal opinons ]) and I can see both tools providing much satisfaction to any potential owner. I'm couldn't say which one I prefer to be honest, they are both equally excellent rotaries!
To the deswirling, to achieve this 50/50 shot, both Steve and myself worked on the bonnet with a Megs Polishing pad and Menz PO106FF which was easily enough to shift the swilrs and holograms in this bonnet:
Then, on the large areas on the other side, I had a go with the Edge 8" green pad. This pad seemed to work effectively and the instant centerring from the adaptor is a huge advantage... Alas, the pad seemed to jiggle and this jiggling seemed to come from the pad not being perfectly round which made the pad a little uncomfortable for me to use, espeically compared to the Megs pads, but it certianly produced the results with the 106FF:
Then, another new to me product to try - Chemical Guys Wet Mirror. This applied and remvoed very easily and left a very sharp and reflective look to the paint and delivered some of the sharpest reflections I saw on a car that day - if reflective finish is what you're after, this product delivers and delivers very well indeed... Personally, I found the finish a little clinical from its sharpness and would have topped it probably with 50/50 (which would really have defeated the anti-static of the product), so for me, a fan of the warm wax look, the product wouldn't be ideal... But as a reflective finish, its a cracker!
Now, onto the testing of various waxes on the cars... I have to say, this I really really enjoyed and I woudl like to thank all today for allowing us the opprtunity to try out differing waxes on the cars and see the finishes - it means a lot to be able to try products out like this and see the finishes side by side to truly appreciate the differences different waxes have - only then can you see that a wax just ins't a wax and there a lot more to it!
Myself, Ant and Bryan applied the waxes to the cars... What follows are some pics of the finishes and my personal thoughts on the waxes used...
Dodo Juice Green
This was a lovely soft and dead easy to apply wax, one of the easiest to apply by hand being very elasticy and spreading just like butter. And it wiped off very easily too, ease of use wise this product is excellent. And finish wise its a real beauty of a wax... Very wet looking finish that you could almost dive into, on this dark blue Vectra it really looked the part:
Swissvax Saphir
This was applied to a metallic black Vectra and oputn of all the waxes today, this is the one that for me stole the show... The finish was just so deep and wet looking, it looked (to me) to be the wax that was standing out the most... Inside it looked great, outside the depth and wettness was simply awsome. easy to apply and remove as well this wax, which for me personally, made it the LSP of the day:
Dodo Juice Yellow
Alongside the other soft hand applied waxes, this one is very very different. Hard as a rock, applied by applicator but despite being hard the wax did spread very easily (and more crucially, thinly!) and buffed off easily too... And, the wax added a nice gloss to silver paint which is a hard task for a wax to achieve but when it does achieve this, silvers really do come alive in my eyes with a liquid gloss... Beautiful finish from this wax:
Victoria Concours
Last but certainly not least for me was the testing of Victoria Concours, also on star silver. I have previously used this wax on my own star silver and been hugely impressed with it and nothing has changed today, seeing it alongside the Dodo Yellow, the Concours in my eyes delivered an equivalent liquid dee gloss to the finish... Indeed, I found it very hard to tell the finishes apart with both waxes really complimenting the silver paint. The Concours:
Side by side, the two star silver Vectras, both looking resplendent with the Dodo Yellow and Victoria Concours and to be honest, I would say that finish wise both are on a par with each other, and that is a very high level of finish: liquid glossy silver, exactly how silver should look in my eyes, the finish just appealed to me.
And finally, a couple of photos randomly from the day:
and, all the cars that turned up, each with an LSP on it and a proud owner!
forgot to mention other cars welcome..

Dates not confirmed but will have to be a Sat or Sun, as the guy has a proper job during the week and does this as a hobby type of thing, like we have run outs + track days etc.. not sure about the other detailers who should be coming down..
price not confirmed but I am hoping for it to be around the £50 mark, you can ask polished bliss for a full detail quote and I think there around 150-250, so this is a very good deal we are getting if it goes through, esp if we get the top waxes etc.. more info when I get it
I think but not 100% sure but the they should be able to cars that have decals on them too..
