Default Where the Hell should I start???

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some expert guidance here from you all.

My car is a 1993 Subaru Impreza WRX Saloon Import.

I want to spruce up my car a bit this summer but I don't have a clue where to start?

I will list the things I would like to do to my car and if you guys could help me put them in a list of where I should start etc that would be great.

1: New alloys to replace standard 16" alloys currently on car.

2: New drivers side seat and also new steering wheel.

3: Figure out what to do with extra space from double din stereo.

4: Replace a few bits of plastic trim inside the car.

5: Full re-spray

6: Improve handling and brakes.

7: Chip and re-map.

8: New stereo that is Ipod compatible.

9: Triple gauge pillar pod (maybe)

Any input would be massively appreciated. Got so many things I want to do but as I said I don't know where to start.

Cheers

AS Paul says

I would start with the handling first and brakes, is one of those things that normally get left till last, but seriously in my experience one that should be done first.

You can get a coin tray thats actually designed to fill the gap in the stereo that fits below a standard stereo, you should egt one of these second hand,

Try the clinic or scoobybits for second hand interior bits, including seats

some great deals on wheels around, but I would not go for 18's on a classic 16 or 17's superb, 18's ruined the feel of my old the car although lifted the looks, to the extent where i fell out of love with it.

Pretty sure you can not remap a 93 classic, you have to get a pigi back ECU that makes them so, I would defineately go for a 3.5" open neck down pipe, really free's the turbo spool time up.

I would definately go for a respray, and definately go for something different colour wise

If the body is in good shape, you could speak to Sticky about a wrap instead of spray cheaper and far far more effective, the skys the limit then with sticky's design skills, have a look at the drift car he did, the best stickered (wrapped) up car i have ever seen.

Personally I'd do it in this order;

1: Improve handling and brakes (should always be top of the list)

2: Chip and re-map (in order to fully utilise 1)

3: New stereo that is Ipod compatible (always good to be bale to have some tunes in the car, may need new speakers too)

4: Figure out what to do with extra space from double din stereo (could always get a double din model when doing 3)

5: Replace a few bits of plastic trim inside the car (there's a few breakers around so should be cheap but could make a big difference inside depneding which bits they are)

6: New drivers side seat and also new steering wheel (you've already got a seat and steering wheel)

7: New alloys to replace standard 16" alloys currently on car (you've already got wheels)

8: Triple gauge pillar pod (nice to keep an eye on temps etc but if remap is done right probably of little real use)

9: Full re-spray (bloody expensive)

I'm presuming you're not a lottery winner or anything so have tried to put them in order of importance vs cost, some cheaper things can make a bigger difference than some much more expensive things when it comes to how it effects your enjoyment of the car.

Ultimately it's your decision and it depends how important the cosmetic side of the car is to you but personally I'd rather spend my money on the mechanicals and as you have a 93 (like me) it would be wise to keep some money to one side for any unexpected costs , don't forget your car is 14 years old this year

Most importantly though, enjoy it

hi m8 i have a 95 wrx and have gone down the handling and brakes route first kept the 16's but got different tyres and had a play around with stickers for something different.Insted of the piller pod go for the type that you can put in the space from your double din stereo. good luck.

All good advice although to gauge the mods you require i think some important details are needed...
  1. is your seat fixed in a recumbent position
  2. do you prefer a cap or sunglasses when driving
we can give expert advice only if these two items are answered truthfully

LMFAO

I sit upright and I prefer sunglasses.

I will speak to Howard at HDC Subaru about starting with a few handling upgrades and see what he suggests. I needmy cambelt changing in the next week or so and a slight oil leak at the front end.

Then I need an MOT at the end of May so just for the next month or so make sure everythings sound mechanically on the car.

Thanks for your input people, really appreciate it.
