Pauls was running fine, it was just too loud for the track on this day. The limit was 102dB, first test on his car came out at 106dB, lowest he got it to 103.9dB and they watched him doing his best to get the car under the limit so they knew the struggle he was having and still wouldn't let him on. He pretty much tried everything but if he'd tried to muffle it anymore, he'd have choked the engine to death and probably blown it.

There were a fair few other cars knocked back too, amazingly they seemed to get louder as the day went on

As disappointing as it was for Paul, I'm glad there was nothing really wrong.

I know how disappointed Paul was, it was only a few db over the limit, and as said I am sure there were louder cars on the track throughout the day.
Thoroughly gutted for you Paul, I was looking forward to seeing the Crafts Monster on the track.

No consolation, but on the dB scale, +10dB equates to twice the volume IIRC. His initial 106dB therefore put him 40% over.

Ant, was that you hanging about for most of the time?

You should have introduced yerself mate.

Or, perhaps I should have introduced myself.

Worst but was the organisers wouldn't refund him the money either! So they made him pay before they tested his car and when it wasn't within the limits refused to give the money back. Perosnally thought it was a sly way to operate and out of order by them. The cars should've been checked first before taking any money.

Harsh, but if it was detailled in the terms and conditions then it is their perogative. Even a partial refund for good will would have been appreciated I suppose. That Maplins dB meter I pointed out a few months back would have come in handy

Was there nobody else who could have taken his track place since he paid it, or dont they work like that.

Don't think so, Sticky's was too loud and I don't want to risk it until the car is how I want it. Stu and Si were already out.

Last I heard was the organisers have used his money as advanced payment for the next track day, though I'm a bit skeptical abut whether they manage it.

I know but I meant to go to all the track days and events. Rick did a brilliant job of trying to get Pauls car in the limits, I think it may be a tad unfair to ask him to drive a transit full of subaru parts to every event.

He pretty much tried everything but if he'd tried to muffle it anymore, he'd have choked the engine to death and probably blown it.

There were a fair few other cars knocked back too, amazingly they seemed to get louder as the day went on
It need not be loud for engine perfomance, I've seen couple of scoobs with well over 500bhp, in fact I think one was nudging 600bhp with a 3" pipe and it wasn't loud at all even stood at the back of it on the rollers. There's plenty of output avaiable from a 2.5"-3" exhaust...

His has been mapped to that exhaust though, you could tell when he started it on the last attempt, the car was struggling to run then, whereas upto that point it'd been fine. I guess it depends on how each car is set up and how it responds to the modifications.
