EOM Meet - 26th July - 4th Year anniversary ...
A simple look back to the last 4 years.....Somewhat inspired by a great, heartfelt PM I received from Bullit_Rich.....
It doesn't seem that long ago that 7, slightly awkward and embarassed blokes stood about in the Fenay Bridge car park with pints in hand trying to strike up a conversation.
If I remember rightly, the cars were fairly ordinary, but the mood was one of optimism as it slowly dawned on us that night that we all had a one great thing in common...
The following 12 months or so saw us meet only once a month and the membership double. Then ever so slowly a mid-monther crept in.. then the odd 'impromptu' run crept in and before we knew it.. we were meeting 2-3 times per month and really starting to enjoy what the club was about.... this new spirit raised the membership numbers and 'The Old Leatherpickers' spirit grew.... I've since lost count of the number of good times we had as the cars became a little more impressive..
The mid years saw the club just take off... the spirit of letting the club be guided by the members just felt right. We expanded with a (embarassingly small for today) Gazebo (nicknamed the Gayzebo, due to it's special Octagonal Argos look) and an embarassingly small BBQ. The throw away BBQ's were a highlight as they brought some cheer by setting fire to doors (at Blyton) and melting tarmac... the black and crispy Sausages bring back some special fond memories...
This really is no dig.. but as members come and go the one thing that surprises me is that the spirit remains.... I can honestly say I've made some great friends... and I'm sure I'll be making many more.... so much so, that in some cases now, the cars are secondary to the close, strong friendhips...
New members will also be coming on board in the years to come and I hope that they will see that this club freindship is infectious...they may not 'get it' straight away, but I hope that the bond and underlying strength we see today is better, stronger, more dynamic and allows people the room to grow from new members.. to quickly become great members... I could reel off the names of 3-4 people who have recently joined us who fit this bill to a T with their enthusiasm, passion and down right WYIOCness to get stuck in and make the club an even more special place to be.....
This is what we are all about and we've never tried to be anything other than a club for the members, this is what we want to be and we won't change from that path......(even though I've wheeled out the club clipboard twice ) This obviously appeals as the club meets up more times than I can keep up with and there are now some serious cars....
So, I'm probably going to get a bollocking from Mick as this appears to be a little subdued ; But it's not meant to be. It's meant to be a celebration of the clubs 4th Birthday.. a celebration of the club and it's members.... past and present.....
If I've got the month wrong, then I'll look a right pillock (damn that Stella!) but regardless, the feeling of 'togetherness' is now stronger than ever...
If you've just been on the outside and want to come on down to a quiet, WYIOC stand around meet where you get the chance to talk and chat...(rather than getting caught up in the frenetic activity around the doo's we put on) then come on down to Squires and simply walk up and say Hi... I could have quoted one of Dave's (Corradoboy) posts, but it would have sounded like a dodgy singles meet advertisement
So, with normal service resumed from the full stop at the end of this post....
A convoy will be setting off from the Brickworks (Drighlington) at 7pm (Organiser step forward!!) to meet up with the second lot at The Trading Post (Castleford) for a setoff to Squires at about 7:20 ish...
See you there...

^ Think I dragged / pestered you into coming to one of the early ones with me. Can definately remember you coming the night I got the Evo, which was my 3rd or 4th meet. That was the night we discovered the Bridge test
