It's in it's infancy at the moment, planning wise, but a couple of us have discussed having a long weekend tour of Scotland in the not-too-distant future.

With that in mind this thread should be used to put forward any ideas for locations (don't worry too much about the route, unless you know of a particular road that you think we really ought to visit)

You can also post up any dates that are / aren't suitable, and whether you want to camp or find some reasonably priced B&B's

We'd ideally be looking at a long weekend, setting off early Friday morning and getting home Sunday evening.

I'll give it a week or two for the ideas to come in and then try and collate them into something that will appeal to everyone.

We are up for it too..... work depending... would need to know about 1 month in advance to book off.
Camping or B&B would be good, Cant have a camp fire in a B&B tho.

Ideas...

• A817 Loch Lomond to Garelochhead road. A wide, long, smooth curving road which carries you from loch to loch a thousand feet above Glen Fruin - and the mountains rise a further two thousand feet above your head. You can see many miles down the glen. The road itself is amazing. It soars and falls hundreds of feet at amazing angles. It's as close to being on a roller-coaster as you'll get on public roads. And it's a wide, safe, empty road - you can turn a corner into a new amazing view doing 60MPH (legally and safely) and at 1 in 10.
  It's a complete sensory overload. And it's quite an easily reachable road. It's not heavily used, but was built to get materials and people to the Naval base at Faslane, which is why it's so overspecified.

Bealach na Ba is a must drive. Probably the best driving road in the whole of the British Isles. From Lochcarron head west on the A896 taking a left to Applecross.

Bealach na Ba is a no-no for the weekend of Sept 1st / 2nd, as there's a cycle race up the bloody thing!

0-2053 feet in 6 miles

 

As you know were up for this bonnie lad, BB or camping climate permiting, loads of fun, some great scenery bring it on.

Don't know Scotland at all, so not to good at forwarding location idea's, but anywhere that looks like the above.

The main thought process behind this was that it'd be better scenery and roads than the IOM, and the cost of the ferry alone would pay for the fuel for the entire thing.

That's not to say we won't ever do the IOM, just that I reckon a Scootland trip would be a bit better subscribed.

Spoke to Bri and Mick briefly last night, and they would both be up for it too, so we have a firm 6-7 cars already.

 

Och, make sure it comes with an ecologically sound sporran!

Yep I'm up for this... love it up in the highlands, try to get there every year, and my fav place is the road to Skye, the Kyle of Lachassh and Plockton... Oh yes top idea, although i have been saying this for Ahumm 3 years

after all one of the bin lids is called Skye...

I may even rick it in the Atom

anyhow Skye, and the highlands are simply beautiful if you havn't been there

Can"t do the week before though 24th,25th ,as I am in the I.O.M at the Manx GP doing a recce for the WYIOC trip over there.

A82 - is a cracking bit of road runs up the side of Loch Lommond up to Glencoe. When you get to Glencoe stop for a pint at the Clachaig Inn,there is a camp site right next to it.
This place is on the way ,The Green Welly Stop, Tyndrum, Scotland,which used to do a cracking butty

On a purely personal note, I'd like to suggest Friday 7th - Sunday 9th Sept, as it's me b'day and would therefore make for a nice celebratory drinkypoos when we get to where we're going
