Smile Anybody At York Raceway Melborne on Sunday 23rd

Saw a few fellow Scoobs on Sunday at York..Anybody from here running..
I took the Nissan Pulsar down after its no show at Blyton ..
It was a good day Andy Forests Subaru was there bending throttle butterflys..
Plus ended up running times better than cars that cost 30 grand upwards..
Shoestring tuning..Ya cant beat it.

I think our very JB went not too sure what was sat behind the wheel of though, think he broke his RA, I say sat behind the wheel of because driving would be to accurate a word..

AF cars is certailny quick, but would think he has more than 30K in it all said and done, still bullet quick.

The Pulsar was running 1 bar and i was getting 12.8's at 106mph..not bad for a turbo with leaking oil seals..All set up and tuned by oneself...

You cant beat em for bucks to BHP...Rapid but do break quite easy...two rebuilds in 3 years and maybe a 3 on the way..or it might be time to get rid...

I was going to say the only draw back is they are a bit brittle with it, but did not want to offend you

I have seen pulsar destroy quite a few peoples ego's on o-60's and 1/4 mile runs

I always remeber attending the RS national day at Donnington quite some time ago, when a lad in an Escort RS cosworth really was giving it large over how he was going to trounce the little nissan in the que.

I knew better, so did he after 60 foot quite an humbling experience for the lad, respect where respect due.

I don't think they are everyones cup of tea because of the size and maybe bad press with idjits driving them in built ups. but none the less a quick small car

Do you think there might be something in that?

Mine was tuned by Nissan and dawes device added by me. 1bar, no tuning or setting up and 5.5 years later.......12.4 1/4s and no rebuilds. (although I do feel the time might be getting nearer)
Mine is the RB model, so probably lighter than yours and close ratio gearbox. I'll be interested to see your time on 1.5bar tho. What turbo do you have on? Mine's all standard still.

PS. Standard internals can do over 400bhp is the fuelling and ignition is spot on.

Its just running standard turbo at the mo but with the oil seals down you can tell its off power a bit..After the next Melborne..its getting a rebuild..new manifold..big turbo..forged internals..side ported exhaust..power steering get rid and totally stripped..FrontLights..dash and Plastic glass the works..gonna just run it 1/4's

Mick, surprisingly a Pulsar is 1cm longer than a Classic Scooby (I checked dimensions when thinking about getting one a few years ago). Never seen them described as anything other than small/tiny etc though!

Only thing i cant tell whats been done to the ecu on mine...Its got no rev limiter(caught me out some times ..and it seems to have some add ons on the ecu board too..

So on the next big rebuild its gonna go to DP or somebody who knows the way of the 20det

I mistyped that. It should have read IF not is. (but the same applys I guess.)

Your ecu might have a daughter board fitted. It could be worth having alook inside. Mine hits the limiter just after the 7500redline.

If you go on the Gtir forums, alot of people will recommend RC or Hiteq.

I'd keep the front lights to help with the aerodynamics (even tho they aren't great) unless you swap one for a intake vent type thingwotsit. No one actually makes one, but a few owners have.

Im gonna fabricate some alloy plates the same shape as the headlights..with one as an air inlet Plus RC or Hiteq are also quality places..All have a good history with doing quality work..I think Hiteq or dp would be the 2 to choose from The best cheap way to make an air intake is get an old headlight..remove the glass and paint it black..

Hi mate

I was a bit shocked by this, as visually they look quite a bit shorter, I just googled dimensions, and info I find is

length

Impreza - 171.3 in/4350
gtir - 156.4 in/3975

not sure how acurate this info is though

HI I think 1.5 bar boost is too much for the standard t28 turbo unless you have the hybrid t3/t4, are you running a front mount? the most I would push it to would be 1.3bar but for everyday running 1.2,
I would recomm HI teq in or near Warrington to get any further up grades done..

I think you might be right..will go for around 1.4 then and prayer ..When ive done the mods and rebuild then i think off to hi teq for mapping and proper set up..

1.4 has been done, but the mapping was spot on. Even tho, don't expect it to last too long at that level, without the mapping, don't expect the engine to last either. Mght be worth abit of octane booster to go with those prayers.

Went back today but the oil seals in the turbo were letting me down not holding boost..Only got into the 12.5's and a couple of .600th's reaction times..
Not too bad there was a black one there too..Not sure who's that was.
Hopefully by next(season)year the car will run the low 11's with the planned rebuild and upgrades
