Default bash-hats?

hello jolly folk

quickie question about bash-hats....whats the standard for track days now? i keep hearing that people are being told they cant use bike helmets on certain tracks and have to hire one of the tracks own (ick how unhygienic?!!)

whats everyones take on it? i know i could probably get away with bike helmet on some days, but i dont wanna be caught out anywhere else

About 3 maybe 4 years ago they changed the british standard on bike hats making it more stringent. The old bike hat standard was the same as the current car hat standard. However the new bike hats now have a different testing regime and hence a different sticker on them and that sticker (and hence standard) is not recognised as adequete for car track use. Is everyone keeping up, there will be a test at the end. :P

I was told by an MSA official that it is purely a paperwork exercise that has not been done but until it is bike hats, even though they are more rigourously tested that car hats, are not considered good enough for use in a car as they are not tested to the recognised british standard for in car use.

Hope that helps

Kev

Sorry mate, you're .01 dB over the permitted limit, and these poor people that unwittingly bought their houses NEXT TO THE AIRFIELD have had their Sundays ruined by you yobbo boy-racer types in your stoopidly loud cars....

On topic, and in a nutshell... or helmet shell...
most track day organisers op for the same standard as required for motorsport, and the blue book says this is FIA8860-2004, SA2005 or 2000, SFI 31.1A or 31.2A, BS 6658-85 Type A/FR or Type A (but not Type B). Type B are the cheepo ones... Most Bike helmets are Type A the FR has nomex in it...
All road legal motorcycle helmets sold in the UK must conform to ECE 22-05 or the older British Standard 6658 (categorised as Type A (blue label) or Type B (green label). basicly the MAS like the old Type approval so type A or A FR, even thought the newer and higher spec ECE 22-5 is better... daft... some lids now have both...
bloody minefield... in other words... you could buy a £1000 Bell, and it won't be passed by a MSA scrutinear... yet you could get a reace car lid for £80...

Would this Lid be ok for track days like Elvington?

G-Mac RADAR Vortex vented full face helmet on eBay, also Helmets, Helmets, Goggles Visors, Motorcycle Clothing Helmets, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Dec-07 20:00:00 GMT)

Need to know so I can get hold of one asap.
