Not sure about the lowering, considered myself but with all the pot holes and speed bumps = OUCH
And I know the main route out of Kippax leeds rd is full of speed bumps

Silver/Gold/Gunmetal and Black, they are 18" (also in 17") and made for the impreza by Inovit. They are Redlines and Scoobyclinic have had a container full made for Scoobs, other places sell em but all the ones I called said they needed spigots to make the wheel fit on the stub shaft, in short the centre hole will be bigger and this is the load carrrying part of the wheel, not the studs, they just hold em on!! Nothing wrong with spigots but can stick to wheel or hub etc etc and IMO better without.
Scoobyclinic sell em for £100 a corner with nuts and locknuts too, plus the centres with the Sti as on mine.
Hope that helps mate.
Considering they're 18's it maybe the lighting.. But 35mm will be OK for Speed bumps... IMO of course, it adds a little aggression to the look as well as giving a lower CoG which brings handling benefits... and...as we all know.... handling upgrades are better than power upgrades.....
If the 35mm you refer to is the '35' in the tire size Al, it's 35%. The profile figure is a percentage of the tire width. The difference between a 35 and a 40 is about 11mm, which would be imperceptible in relation to the CoG to all but the deftest F1 driver. The increase in sidewall rigidity however would be easily noticeable.
