Ariel has announced the latest version of the Atom – the Ariel Atom 500, powered by a small V8 engine. With over 500bhp in a 500kilo package the Atom 500 will boast one of the highest power to weight ratios ever for a production car.

The Atom will have over 1000bhp per tonne (compared to a Bugatti Veyron’s 521bhp/tonne).....

Yep, known about this engine for about 2 years now. The RS Developments V8, theres vids on their website from 2005 with the engine in a Caterham/Westfield. Looked a handful back then and I should imagine it'll be more of a handful now.

They set a new course when they took the car to a track day at a circuit on their first time out!

The measurements show that the engine is roughly the size of a motorbike engine which means it could fit in just about any car around!
