He's good - really nice chordal structures and I used to love picking harmonics out or picking them from chords but he's nothing amazing when you see who his peers are:
Leo Kottke
YouTube - Leo Kottke Live Clip 1
Adrian Legg (Genius!) (I put on a faster track so you can see him do his de-tuning tricks during a song and his balladic stuff is beautiful) The tone of his guitars is amazing and I love listening to his albums to chill out - Check out Technopicker
YouTube - Pedal steel without pedals, and Busters funky fingers (wow!)
YouTube - Adrian Legg - Ghost In The Hills (also has Brad Jones on there)
My dad is a pro guitarist and I played for about 20 years so I'm into ANY kind of guitar playing Vai is my hero but I got into fusion stuff when I was in my twenties and now just love anything creative, inventive and I'm a sucker for a soaring melodic ballad instrumental lol.
I have so many vinyl LPs and CDs from my younger days heh.
If you like guitar then check out Larry Carlton for the most deft, subtle playing you'll see...this is one of the most beautiful pieces of guitar playing I have heard.
YouTube - Larry Carlton - Emotions wound us so (live Last Nite album)
You may notice you got me onto a subject I am passionate about lol

ah no - I'm on a Youtube hunt now - **** - I'll be here all night!
Larry Carlton also did the Hill Street Blues theme and was a session player on a lot of Steely Dan stuff
I sound like I listen to old 80s guitar stuff but my main listens these days are Dream Theater, Coldplay, Radiohead, Wombats etc lol.
I better go before I start again...
ok...Stanley Jordan:
YouTube - Stanley Jordan plays "Stairway to Heaven" Wait till you see him when he starts playing both guitars together!
You can see from his attire it was a long time ago lol
Do you play at all m8?
