Default ScoobyClinic Yesterday

Took the car in for a lot of mods doing, and got to say im glad I listened to a lot of you fellas with regards to handling before extreme power.

Had;

ALK
rear ARB
2 new rear shocks
Eibach springs all round
Typhoon cold air induction kit
Re-Map
fast road geomatry set-up.

Car feels terrific, its now running 320 bhp with around 300lbs torque, I must admit, I thought it might get a little more, but I never thought to ask what it was officially running in the first place, its an sti ppp but as we all know, they never run the claimed 305hp do they?

Anyway, feels a lot quicker and it cruises at lower revs than b4, so can't argue with that eh

Next I think ill be doing the drop links all round, and a front ARB.

I think power wise its more than enough tbh for me, Ill slowly ad a few bits and bobs here and there.

Need the alloys refurbing after my trip to wembley (sh1tty carpark) where I managed to curb all fvckin 4 trying to park in the crappest car park ever

A big thanks fellas for advising on the handling/suspension mods.

Well done mate, that's great news. As has been mentioned, you either get the handling side or you don't.. it really is a personal preference thing. The fact that you'll benefit from the handling everytime you use the car, rather than when the conditions allow, then it's the better choice from an investment persepective.

I look forward to hearing about the other improving mods as they come....

Glad you're happy

Have a play about with the rear ARB. Most have it on the middle, but try it on the stiffest setting It only takes 5 minutes to change, and if it isn't for you, change it back. No point buying an adjustable ARB and never adjusting it is there ? Oh, and you say you'll do the droplinks next, definitely, the rears especially. I'm surprised the 'Clinic didn't bully you into them as part of this fitting As for the front ARB, think about it and ask others for their experience. It is common for the dreaded understeer to resurface when adding stiffness to the front of the chassis. I never bothered and was more than happy with the turn-in on mine.

ah right, I might well not bother with the front ARB then if thats the case.

Yeah they would have tried to get me to do them I reckon, but they didn't finish mapping until half 5, and they'd had the car allday aswell.

The bill was £2094 so it'll be a month or two b4 they get done....

I've not bothered with the front ARB. As CB says, having the rear done dials out a lot of understeer, if you then go and stick an uprated front on you'll just be undoing the good work of the back one.

The stiffest setting makes wet roundabouts mucho fun. Went out for a play after changing mine and found a nice orage Exige to toy with. Did a good few laps around Wooley roundabout together in the damp, and it was hard to tell which car was the twitchiest

Funny, I never found mine twitchy on the stiffest setting The STi probably has stiffer springs and dampers, so adding a little more stiffness could well take it nearer the edge, but even when I had moved to AST's I left the ARB on stiff. In hindsight I would probably just go for a 24 or 28mm fixed bar if I did it again, as I think it would be OK with my driving style.

What was the justification for the Typhoon ? They are lovely, and when I rode in Sticky's the sound was very entertaining, but would the car have made any less power on the OE intake system ?

I did bring this up to them, I was happy with the green filter id put in...just...but he explained that for more power.......so I succumed I think it would have made a little more with a full de-catted system aswell, altho the prodrive one has the sports cat, so no messing come MOT time, and for an extra 10bhp or so....one thing I thought though...the torque, I would have liked that a little higher maybe.

Im in a dilemma about my wheels being refurbed...

I don't have any other wheels to pop on etc, I was thinking of taking them to Precious Metal or somewhere, I don't mind not having the car if im working but has anyone left the car with anyone doing this etc? I don't fancy leaving it on bricks on the drive

I've got a spare set of STi alloys that I use for the track. You're welcome to borrow them, but you would have to stick some tyres on some of them (3 I think)

Hiya mate, thats a really nice offer, I think I might be able to get my mate who changes plant tyres to sort it, what size are the sti ones, are they 17's? the ones on mine atm are 18" - so it could be a problem...

Either way, they need doing, they look a discrace tbh, can't make my mind up on keeping them gold or maybe getting them powder coated black.

Hi Jim !

If you go for black wheels on a black car, the tyres look grubby unless "treated"...

Front arb WITH alk just turns the grip up to eleven, except in zero grip situations....

Duncan

P.S. I have two STI alloys with ("cr*p") new tyres on you could borrow, they fit so no problems there, you just need to find two more ! !
