Excellent Traffic Help
Some people may be aware of these two excellent resources... I wasn't.
Probably one of the most useful of sites before you set off from home or work on your journey....
Traffic Jam Cams. The AA one is a simple camera selector for any camera on the major arteries. Showing you real time snaps.
The Traffic England allows you to see the cams, matrix messages, current traffic speed, roadwork details, incidents and weather on the route. Pretty cool stuff.
Sure Satnav and TMC may give simple traffic warnings, but this allows you to very quickly check the state of the major road areas before setting off...
Traffic England: http://www.trafficengland.com/TCC/Sc...e/ViewTable.do
Select all the boxes, select the M1 or M62 and get all the detail. Click on the camera Icon to see the traffic within a few seconds or minutes...

Yeah, I go eastbound on a friday night and laugh at all the poor saps stood still westbound, then get stuck for the 1/4 mile between the M62 and J.41
I still say we need to have a compulsory, nationwide flexible working time directive, whereby ALL companies employing more than 30 people have to, BY LAW, have people starting at 6am, 7, 8, 9 and 10. All retail shops must open at 11am (unless 24hr, or are food/catering ONLY (no cafe's within stores)). Then you'd have people finishing at 1pm, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Shops could stay open until 8 or 9pm.
So, apart from the school-run idiots you'd no longer have a rush hour, but a steady flow throughout 18+ hours of the day. Companies which deal/trade internationally would have more staff available with considerations to world time-zones, the roads would be quieter, we'd all get there quicker, be less stressed and use MUCH less fuel and thus create MUCH LESS POLLUTION (I think I've just justified my policy to the Daily Mail reading masses).
Of course, no-one will support the idea, as it means people would have to break their moronic habitual lifestyle

10 years ago my boss wanted to double production.....
So I suggested 6-2 plus 2-10 shifts, to double the utilization of the machinery !
So he got another unit and doubled his workforce instead
Because he reckoned that he would have to do 6AM till 10 PM to keep an eye on us
