Default stainless steel welder needed

the tubular front pipe on my car is cracked and blowing, it's only a small crack and the 'put put' blowing sound pretty much disappears when it warms up and closes the gap, but it deffo needs repairing, my mig is only set up for mild steel and it's not really worth investing in S/S wire and a canistor of Argon so anyone know who could weld it up?

I'll remove it tomorrow and post up a pic of the crack.

Hi bud.
sound like your cracking on with the motor.
1 Off sheet metal at Ravensthorpe would be able to do any welding for you.
from Mirfield turn right after the swan into trading estate, 80yards turn right over hump back bridge, go straight on, do NOT bare right. 100yards on your right. Da Daaa, your there.
Do you think you will have the car ready for the 1st round, Is it in April?

Thanks Bez I'll get it off and over for them to have a look at, it's only a slight crack so won't take much fixing but I'll let them judge whats needed.
I don't think the car will be ready for the 1st round which is Apr 18 Mallory Park, although I'll be having a drive down to watch if anyone fancies a road trip.
Problem is I can probably get the car ready but it's the other stuff, ARDs test, race suit, boots new helmet etc etc etc (BTW I've found a really cheap supplier of race helmets Snell SA2005 FIA helmets, full or open face fully flame proof, tri laminate proper Motorsport helmet see link :
V2 racing helmets that are approved to SNELL SA2005 standard and comply with MSA regulations for all motor sports these helmets are a bargain and much better than a bike helmet for cars)
Then I need the rollcage, extinguishers, harnesses, seat etc etc, the costs add up rapidly and the bulk of my budget is coming from selling the TVR so money is tight till then and the funds I have got available will soon run out!!! So until I sell the Griff I'll do as much as I can on the prep work that doesn't involve to much expence, and spend what I can without the wife knowing to much.
In the mean time I fancy having a bash at the Sprint series, because I don't need any of the safety kit required in the Subaru Cup so can run the car pretty much as is, plus it will show up any problems prior to the race series, I've emailed the organisers but so far not received a responce, who do I need to contact to sign up?

Bez forget the reference to the Sprint, I've been on the Sprint forum and it looks like everyone is waiting for details, but I've pre-registered and will be signing up once they sort the dates out etc

18th April is Grudment day at Elvington, just like the scooby sprint but any car can enter it. it is a 5 round series, so for me I will be entering the Grudge at elvington.
as for building a race car, you will need deep pockets, I know, my pockets are deep but now they are empty, and I still ant got a race car, but great fun doing the sprints.
5 rounds of grudgment days, and 5 rounds of scooby sprint a couple of track days, thats plenty for me.

What ever you get for the Trevor, the scoob will take it all and more to get it FIA race ready and race for a season.
but your going in the right direction, I think you have the right base car, and I think you have a good idea of how much its all going to cost. Time scale. if you get it all ready for round 2 you will be doing well. the spints would be good practice ground for you. but it is very differant to racing.

Good look to you budd,

Bez

Can’t do the Grudge as it’s the 1st round of the Subaru Cup I won’t be racing but I think I need to be there to check out how it all goes down.

I agree building and racing any car isn’t cheap, but the Subaru Cup / Nippon Challenge are abound as cheap as it gets, the production class only allows very limited mods and these are safety related and 280bhp(flywheel) power limit which isn't difficult to achieve, I’m budgeting on building a car for less than £3K, sound optimistic ? well so for I’ve got the car, new organic clutch, and I spent £1100, add a cage OMP 10 point from Peter Lloyd Racing £360, Nicky Grist harnesses £115, cheap Cobra seat £130, Lifeline plumbed fire system £125 (these come up on Ebay from time to time so I’m on the look out for a used system) that’s pretty much all I need to go racing and even if I buy everything new it still comes in around £2K OK there’s sundries rainlight, battery cut offs wire, bonnet pins brake pads give the engine a good service but even then I’m well inside my budget. For sure it could go pop right away but I’ve got to be positive.
It seems to be other things that eat funds, Ards test, new overalls, helmet etc plus there's travel to and from track, fuel, tyres , entry fees and the possiblity of a serious crash or blow up but I'm not getting any younger so what the hell, on the plus side if I manage to do just one round the car will then be a proven race car and Cup cars fetch around £4K ready to race so it's not like pi**ing the money away.
The sprint series while different allows me to use the car before it's finished for the race series, they just need to be taxed and tested right? it will put similar loads on the car and highlight problems , give me some valuable experience behind the wheel and hopefully be great fun.

Keep up the hard work Budd, you sound very motivated i hope it works out how you plan

I'm in the process of convincing my dad to help me build a cheap track car as a joint project and your progress so far is making me want to get started.

On the sprint, you would have to enter PRO class as it is stripped out. I am not 100% but I dont think you require MOT and tax, just a trailer.

Are you getting excited?

I'll have to study the classes and work out which is appropriate, it will be taxed and tested ASAP, I aim to use it on the road (with should be fun) although I can't actually get it on the road till I get a V5, tax runs out end of the month and I can't tax it until the V5 arrives at least it gives me chance to do the various jobs it needs to get it ready for it's test, I'll re-fit the cat when I do the clutch, sort out the lights, clean & service the brakes then it should be ready for it's test. hopefully it should be ready for test next week then I just need to wait for the V5 and it'll be on the road, I want to get it over to the next MMM but we'll see how it goes, I had hoped to come over to Squires tomorrow in it but the clutch is to bad, if it had been slipping a bit I'd have risked it but the way it is I'd be lucky to make it to the top of the road!!!
and yeah I'm looking forward to giving it some stick at the first sprint, lets hope they get the details posted soon.

BTW, I've found someone to weld the exhaust, just round the corner which is bit of luck, it's off the car and hopefully getting welded tomorrow, thanks to everyone who offered to help me with it.
