Default Rotational "catching" from the rear

Hi All, I did a day at Blyton Park yesterday and unfortunately during my first "hot" session I was black flagged. I'd already had a noise warning, but I'd been short-shifting and thought I had quietened down.

When getting back to the paddock, I was told of a catching sound from my car - sounded rotational. I'll be honest, I knew about this from "fast-road" driving, whenever my brakes get hot - something catches on the rear. It's never impacted braking, I just put it down to some pad deposits on the disk - but since I was at risk of being black flagged I restricted myself to 5 lap stints for the rest of the day, as temperature took that long to get to the point in which the catching started.

The sound also seemed to be easily replicable by heavy right turns... not so much left ones or going straight... unless they got REALLY hot and then it was just all the time.

I'll strip my rear brakes at the weekend, but wondered what to look out for? I'm wondering whether it could be the dust/stone shield - hopefully I'll see evidence of contact when I take the disks off... but am I safe to run without those? I can always get some spanking new ones from Subaru I guess.

Any other thoughts/ideas?

Running Godspeed disks and CL RC5+ Pads.

Not the handbrake shoes?

Or could it be a bearing showing up when hot?

As alcazar said maybe handbrake shoes. My money is on a bent/rotten dust cover thats only just missing when the brakes are cold.

I took them off on my old classic with no problems whatsoever!

Cheers Gents, I shall investigate the handbrake shoes too. I did try applying (lightly) the handbrake whilst in motion (slowly, in a straight line :P) and it changed the tone of the noise... but hard to describe exactly how.

It will be the lip on the backplate that fits in the groove on the disc , its probably been bent by accident , or just rusty , you'll see evidence if you remove the disc , its nothing to worry about and won't cause any problems , just annoying !

It seems to be a lip on the back of my disc which slots into a groove on the hub. You can see a slightly polished bit about 2in long at the 2-3 oclock position:

This was the lip on the "catching" corner, slightly polished/worn:

vs the unpolished one at the other side:

I took a dremel and carbide bit to the lip, and also ground down all the rust on my backing plates followed by a lick of paint... hopefully that does it:
