Looking to fit 18" wheels to my MY00 wagon - preference is SuperT's which weigh 11.5 kg against Superleggeras weighing 8.3 kg. If the standard 16" rims weigh 9kg, will I notice any ill effects by going up nearly 3kgs on each corner! Anyone fitted 18" SuperT's in this size to a "classic" shape Impreza?

You will certainly notice a difference going from 16in to 18in, but probably not bceause of the weight. Pete Croney did some rough calculations which showed at least 50kg hanging on the suspension, so just a few kilos won't make much odds.

But you need to tread carefully with 18in wheels on a classic-shape Scoob. Apart from the handling issues, wheel/tyre width and off-set will be very tight. Speak to an expert, or if you can't find one of them, try Pete Croney (Scoobysport).

Richard.

Sorry Pete. Couldn't resist

Keith, Hoppy's right (as you probably already know) - the offset is the crucial thing which is why it took me so long to decide, but as you know, with the right offset, 18x7.5 will go (and 19x7.5 !).

Go on....you know you want to

LOL at Hoppy

You will need ET48 to ET50 and a 7" or 7.5" width.

Thanks to Hoppy and Pete, and to my mate Glenn, for your advice. It's set me thinking! A call to Scoobysport tomorrow, I think! Thanks for the picture, Pete.

I haven't got any more pics of Stuart's car, but drop Rob Mo (normally posts in Halfway House meets in Southern) a mail, as he has the same wheels on his 99 DBM wagon.

Pete Croney - Thanks for your help and re-direction.

Nathan - You and Glenn in a conspiracy? Can I see your old wheels on my car perhaps? Maybe to exclude them from the equation?

Wheels gone to a fellow MY01 owner who wanted them (+tyres) for track use. The lacquer had started to go anyway.

18's are the way forward. Just do it

I think the Eastbourne mafia is getting a bit out of hand.
I think the Grandfather (sorry Godfather) should put them straight, and just buy the wheels

Iain

Thanks for the advice on the wheels, and yes, they are ganging up on me.

How did you know I was a grandad? (Just look old, huh?) Got a three year old granddaughter named Hollie! Spooky stuff mate!

By the way, hope Tom gets home safely after staying at your gaff tonight.

Thanks for the picture - I just did that outside Halfords this morning. I'm sure I want Superlegs, but state of roads down my way is making me worry about 18's. Can you post again after your decision?

Yeh! I was going for the 17" backbox but got persuaded to fit the 18" one - but that was the same weight, if I recall.

Keith,
I wasn't even thinking of buying new wheels yet. But these happen to be in the warehouse Just seeing what they look like.

You never know, if the price is right then I may well get them
