Best pads for fast road use?
Hello there I have an 05' widetrack and wondered what people's opinions were on the best brake pads for fast road use?

One more for performance friction... Bought from Alyn to replace my Kevlar fast road pads which were noisey and dusty...

I used PF-Z pads with my brembos on the road and on track and they were excellent. I found the only limits to their effectiveness was the ability of the discs and calipers to dissipate the heat build up when on track. The pads were brilliant.

Depends on what you mean by the best , some very good pads available , but as with most things you will get a trade off , As above PF pads are good , but I find them a bit wooden until they warm up , a good pad for the money , we sell these for £99 a set for fronts.
A better performing pad cold or hot are CL RC5+ , but the trade off with these they can squeal at low speed / town driving , these are £135 a set.
Both sets very good for the money , other less performing pads are more.
Do you need discs as well , as we have various offers on for disc and pad packages

On a standard'ish pad , the pad vibrating in the caliper , which you can usually fix with copper slip , ceretech paste , chamfering the pads etc.
High performance pads can squeal because of the pad material , such as a pad with carbon , the pads in my rally car squeal like a pig , performance is amazing though.

Busta, I have rc5+ all round on standard 4 pots and 2 pots with grooved discs. From cold they work spot on and when hot pretty much the same. No complaints on performance from me.

How hard have you pushed them? I just want to know how they compare with the rc6 I had before, they were aggressive with just a touch action on peddle without stomping on them, although that was on a heavier newage hence I'm thinking on a classic the rc5+ will compensate like the rc6 due to weight diffrence.

I find both RC5 and 6 very good pads , 6's are better , but are harder on discs , I use 8's in my WRC car which are harder again , but better.
You will be hard pushed to fade RC5's on the road , and only the hardest drivers on good tyres would have issue's on the track.
5's are very good for disc wear considering they are a very good performance pad

I like ferrodo ds2500 work well on the road, last well and don't disintegrate when they're about half worn either, unlike other pads I've used. Some say they are dusty but that doesn't bother me, good bite from cold, no squealing and very consistent under hard ROAD use.

No bite in my eyes, well not the bite i prefer anyway, find them shocking on track, out braked by everyone, just too much peddle work imo.
Glad you find them good considering you're a driver

You need to try proper pads, i have these in my aps and i hate them, they came with calumets unfortunately.

The best I've tried so far for both road and track is Carbotech XP10.
I like RC5+ and particularly RC6 as well, but the Carbotechs are equal to the RC6 in bite and fade resistance without the godawful squeal of the RC6. The dust from the XP10 is also more benign than the RC6 which has a voracious appetite for wheel finishes that not even the strongest sealants can protect against. The Carbotechs are more expensive than RC6 but they last longer.

So can you give me a honest feedback aswell on the rc6 vs rc5 too?
I'm looking at least £200+ for them so would like to make a right decision.
I was going to get the PF pads, but I don't think they are a 'aggressive' type pad? Well I havnt tried them either but loads seem to rave about them.
It's the pad modulation and pedal feel I'm after hot and cold.

Lol if you want a detailed reply wait to i finish work,Anyway the PFzrated pads that most members go on about was my first outing using PF friction pads on my STI brembo's and found that the modulation of the pad was just right for my style of driving,but when my car power increased i slowly found their limits,but saying that they are a better pad then my Ferodo DS2500 with the Ap calipers as the Ferodo pads fade bad even on the road for me,I spoke to Alyn who machined a set of PF11 for me to fit my Ap calipers but have not fitted them yet,but i drove my friends evo with the PF11 fitted and they are just what i need the modulation is spot on coming down from high speeds.I am still going to Get a set of RC5+as i tried a set of RC5 on my Subaru before and they were as dusty and noisy as hell so i just want to see how different the + version is so will talk to Alyn or Ian and get A set.The PF series of pads have passed the test and i would recommend them to anyone,and i know that i would not get cussed after they have used a set.SJ.
So machining a pad to suit works, that means I'm not as limited as I thought, but just want a pad to fit straight in tbh.
I'll give the rc5s a go I think as I highly rated the rc6 but on the downside they squealed in town driving, but didn't when properly using them, also they are a disk killer but I found to use a high content grey iron disc like genuine Brembos and they lasted well.
I had them on a heavier car so hoping the classic will compensate with the rc5s, or shall I buy the rc6s I'm thinking, but then I maybe be heading for the windscreen lol.
The PF deffo are a contender, but will need a more aggressive pad, it's the pedal feel to me that's important, need to try someone's car with good PF pads in, any offers?

I ran RC5+ on my classic with four-pots and found them pretty decent although I brake a lot harder on my hawk with Brembos.
Personally don't see why you would go for them over the RC6 other than the squeal is a problem (and the RC6s make such a racket), in which case you'd might as well pony up for the XP10s. Fronts are a bit more expensive but last a fair bit longer while rears are actually cheaper than RC6. Buy direct from Carbotech Europe for the best deals.

As I've always said, I don't drive like an idiot on the road so the ds2500 are fine, they do what it says on the tin last for circa 20k miles and don't eat the discs while they're doing it, if you want to chomp through 2 sets of pads and a set of discs every 10k then that's fine by me.
Oh and the op did say fast road and I did emphasize ROAD in my reply.

The art of fast driving is learning how to carry speed and clean smooth lines, not tear arseing to a corner stomping on the brakes and then relying on huge power to compensate for a lack of ability and finesse.
As I've always said, I don't drive like an idiot on the road so the ds2500 are fine, they do what it says on the tin last for circa 20k miles and don't eat the discs while they're doing it, if you want to chomp through 2 sets of pads and a set of discs every 10k then that's fine by me.
