Had this very same problem, thought it was because of uprated pads but on inspection the pads were standard
cleaned and coppa slipped all four dics pads...no change ???
bit of a head scratch and at the time was wondering why the handbrake was so violent.
So off came the rear wheels again and noticed the handbrake does not control the rear disc caliper but has it's own independant drum and shoe assembly.
Took off the caliper and disc/drum and blew loads of dust from handbrake shoes, bit of a clean and WD40'd the pivot points.
RESULT. no squeaks and no violent handbrake.

Fuzz thanks for the info. I'm going to give that a try this weekend and see if it cures the problem. <fingers crossed>
Any particularly difficult aspect or widget to watch out for?

Neno,
Only trying to get the rear disc off, was stuck fast,
those two little holes in the face of the disk (the section the wheel bolts to) are threaded, metric 8 or 10mm. Use two bolts and wind them in evenly / gently and the disc should come off (with a little persuation.
Dave,
Rather do things myself, not on a time scale to do jobs and I know it's done right and exactly how I wanted it to be done.
a saying I have used throughout life works well
(if you want something done right, do it yourself)

Fuzz,
Thanks for the idea of the handbrake drum, I've been spraying the caliper over the last week to see if that does it, which oddly has helped a little.
But thanks to you I've taken off the disc and cleaned the drum brake on one side and it seems to have done the job -
Only thing is it's done such a good job I can now hear the other side!
Many thanks
Mike
