Peugeot 406 with ABS, bought second hand. Never felt the usual ABS pulsations even though have tested for them. No warning light. Last few days when a little colder in the mornings, pulsation like ABS after first braking as going out of the drive - along with the increased stopping distance. Doesn't always do it. Discs and pads are a bit worn, which I might just change initially, but ABS should not come on for this reason. Wondering about a sensor that may have to be cleaned or something simple before I give it to someone to look at. Could it be old brake fluid? The service history is patchy? Any suggestions before it gets expensive?

I'd guess that the cold tyres (maybe surface in your drive as well?) and brake fluid etc (low grip) just triggered the ABS but that it's fine otherwise.

Funny the wife doesn't report it but her mechanical awareness is not much. I don't brake hard at all when this happens - we are talking light pressure on the brakes though...

I'll change the brake fluid on this car too then There was an improvement on the Scooby after your previous suggestion

like you say I would get the wheels off and check the sensor "nobbles" (can't think of a better word sorry) are not full of cr@p, could be triggering it as sensor thinks wheel has stopped turning.??

I had this on a citreon, especially as you slow from about 5mph.

I never figured it, and because the warning light didn't come on, and the braking effort was okay, it passed MOT.

I was told "main dealer problem" by an independant citreon garage.

unless it's ferrous crap on toothed wheel, should be fine.

slow traffic was the killer with it, never got it sorted I am afraid, just got rid.
