Unhappy

I seem to have accidentally hit a curb stone last night and have damaged an Alloy. I think it's a throw-away job but does anyone think otherwise?

I'm sure there's someone out there that would repair it, but looking at it i'd rather replace it for safety!

Id be interested to know as well. I did a very similar dink and got Wheel Wizards around to touch up a small scratch on another wheel. When I asked if he could repair the dinked one he said that because the outer rim was bent that they could fix it as it would not maintain the same strength (some new safety ruling - dunno if it was official or just their company). Its lying in my garage now in case I can find someone to repair it and use it for a spare as I just bought a new wheel to be safe.

I must say that I dinked my old nissan alloy and it was bad but a local contractor did it for about £70-£80. Not cheap but beats paying £175 for a new wheel.

Simon.

That must have put a hell of a lot of strain on many parts of the wheel - I'd err on the side of caution personally. note that this is completely baseless advice, but I just really don't like the look of that given the amount of structure that has been compromised...

Incidentally, when did black and decker start making callipers?

If it's just the outside edge, then that should be fixable. Most of the stress would be taken by the spokes, so doubt if the wheel would collapse.

Problem is you can't see if there are any stress fractures on any other part of the wheel.

I would take it along to a refurb place and get their advice. If they have any doubts, I'd bin it.

Stefan

Thanks for the lookups...

I am gonna bin it. It isn't worth taking the risk. I am on the lookout for another wheel now.

Cheers,
Marc

I'd bin it, too. Bet it's also buckled. And bin the tyre - side wall must have taken a major beating Unsafe
