i got the 325mm four pot kit with the drilled and grooved discs last summer from godspeed, they were good at first but now they make the judder when covering the pedal from 40 mph so i think they are warped. question is i cant do with out the car so does ian send out replacement discs so i can fit them and send the warped ones back or is there some other way of claiming them under the years warranty.

It is probably uneven pad deposits - give them a caning from 80 (less if you have soft road only brake pads) to 10 mph 3 times in quick succession (90% braking effort) than a full cool down. Do this 3 times where it is safe and that may even out the pad deposits. This is advice I have had from my brake supplier to fix my 'warp'. God know where I can find a road to do that on mind...

I'm using Ian discs and bells on my car, I sent them back to him once cos I was concerned, they came back totally refreshed and shiney, I've been using them hard ever since they went on the car, with no real problem, Ian is/has been/and I suspect always will be a little slow at responding to mail, but, so are some far larger firms, that charge much higher prices!

Scoobyboy - Thanks for those kind words ... Yes you could have gone for a bigger name kit with a higher price and not had a gaurantee on the discs like we offer , I will guarantee discs against warping even if you go on the track , let see anyone else do that . but back to your discs , I need to see the discs before we change them , as it could be what has been said that it could be uneven deposits on the discs off the pads , So a surface grind will fix the problem , if not they will then be changed , So you will either have to send the discs back to me or come down , I have sent you an email direct with more info , Cheers Ian

ian as i cant make it down i would have to send you the discs to skim them you send them back if they are still warp under braking i then have to send them back. no offence but thats a lot of toing and froing only to end up with a new set anyway and also it would be more expensive in p&p than it would for me to get them skimmed.
and also i don't regard skimming as warranty a warranty should state that any part found to be defective is replaced free of charge like for like etc etc how many people on here would settle for a brake skim on their subarus if they knew they could get brand new discs under warranty not many i bet.

My current understanding is that if you have a problem with 'warp' issues with new-ish brakes, it can usually be related to pad deposits or/and how you have initially treated them or bedded them in... (IMHO) I would imagine that it's pretty tough to get big (330mm +) rotors' metal out of shape...

Godney's warrranty looks like one of the best going, so I would not complain too much about your part of the equation of getting it sorted (especially compared to the price of the initiall investement)...

It's a bit like *****ing through the night and then complaining that your di*k is sore or that you did it wrong ?

IMHO D

LOL @ DISEL, Wise words mate. Thinking I'll get the 308 mm Godspeed conversion, better pick the car up first though! Just the brakes felt a bit pants on my test drive - although the brakes on my 306 GTI6 are exceptional

Hi Guys
If there is a problem with your Disks Ian will sort them out.

I have a similiar problem a few months back when the brakes were juddering on one side,Probably caused by me using used uneven brake pads.
Ian gladly sorted them out and can say they are awesome with my new pads in.
Will recommend Godspeed, excellent service

Ian - do you concur with this pad deposits thing i'm on about? Do you fix most 'warped' disks with just a bit of a rub with some fine abrasive to sort them out?

Cheers

lol good metaphor that diesel, the discs themselves are going off to prodrive via a friend on the rally team who are going to inspect them first just wanted somebody who isn't biased to say what they think of them.

Totally understand mate - did exactly the same to my 'warped' disks recently - they were in fact 'metally' true. ('Metally' - what the hell am I on about )

Had a hint of a wobble on Ian's 330 kit after 10 months. Went to see him (as arranged when I rang him) - skimmed disc, job done sorted.
If only all suppliers stood by their products so well and sorted minor glitches so easily !!!!!!!!
Cheers Ian.

So, you're not gonna give Ian the chance to deal with this as a warranty issue, but I bet you'l carry on moaning about them!

You might want to give Ian the chance to sort it, because if its just a clean up which is needed and you give it to someone else (even if it is Prodrive and hell I don’t suppose you can better than them) then if the disks did warp later on in their life, Ian may be within his rights to invalidate the excellent warranty he provides.
Just something to keep in mind.
Cheers

well to be honest i would want new discs under warranty without question thats the idea of warrantys, subaru don't question the dealers about discs the dealer just replaces them free of charge. we have never skimmed any discs on a car that is warranty just replaced them with out question
it seems to me that a surface grind is a way around actually replacing them and replacing them is the very last ditch attempt to keep the customer happy.
also having towait a longtime for the kit i can't be with out the car for that amout of time while they are away getting skimmed i'll get it done myself at a fraction of the csot of p&p them and have it done the same day.

AP Racing have the same policy. No quibble warranty on discs BUT they do want the disks sent back to them first for inspection.

They may not have been bedded in correctly or have been abused ie red hot disk, stop car keep foot on brake.....

So it is a pain but only fair to the supplier really........and used disks that develope a slight warp and are then skimmed can be more robust than a new set as they have had a good heat cycle allready.....IMHO
