Question

what did you change to, and are they the same 92Y speed and load index as the Pirelli's?

I will shortly be due to change all 4 tyres, and have been reading through all the various Goodyear vs Toyo vs S-03 and Avon ditch finder threads and am a bit lost as to what to change to. Most of what has been written seems to relate to the 17" size tyres and am wondering if it would be much the same results with the 225/40 18's.

Any advice, comments would be welcome.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

I replaced mine with 225/40/18 Yokahama AVS Sports. I'm sure the load index is equal or better than the pirelli's and the grip is definately better. They're not wearing down too quick either which suprises me for Yoko's.

I'll check tonight and post the load rating.

Ian

Hi Mark,

I've just checked and the Yoko's are 92Y.

Regards,

Thumbs up

Thanks Ian, hadn't even considered Yoko's, thats one to add to the list that isn't just a Porsche fitment, which is the other problem with this size. The local tyre bay only had a Michelin and the P zero listed in this size which wern't Porsche fitment, though both in excess of £185 a corner.

Bit more hunting round to be done.

Mark,

Go for the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's. They're "ZR" rated (suitable for speeds in excess of 144 mph) and will cost around £115.00 per corner.

Cool

Mark How may miles have you managed from your pirelli rosso's?. My fronts are starting to look low at 8500 which is poor I think. Still could get another 2000 miles from them. I origionally planned to replace with Toyo's but have switched my choice to the Goodyear F1 GSD3.

Hi Nigel,

Currently got 12,500 miles out of them, but that included swapping fronts to rear at approx 7000. I think they would probably go another 3 to 4000, but they are really squirmy now and they are not inspiring confidence especially when it is either cold or just damp. So I reckon I will be changing them sooner rather than later.

I replaced my P Zero's with Toyos from Jim Dickson @ £110 per corner. They are nice and sticky although have to say I do most driving on the Mway which probably explains why I got 22000 out my P Zero's!

Cool

Just rolling 16k up on my p0's fronts they are starting to slide around good and proper now - they really are bad in the wet - dry very good indeed.

I personally will be going with the GSD3 Goodyears £500 for 4 best price I seem to be able to muster down near bracknell/berks.
With the tread those babies have wet or dry (and lets face it in this *hitty country there's always wet - they are very very good!

The Yoko's had me tempted for a while but with a bit of hammer you will be replacing <8k miles done - but the grip oh the grip !
