Brake pad fitting
#2
Mark - not sure if you need torque set ? someone else might prove me wrong. You don't need to undo the caliper either to replace the pads: (I've left out the bits about removing and refitting the wheel as I assume you're OK with this )
1. undo the wire spring clip that holds the pad pins in.
2. remove pins (might need pliers and a tap with small hammer)
3. remove wing shaped retaining clip (keep this !)
4. grap pads with pliers or mole grips and yank out.
5. prize pistons back with piece of wood or similar (don't be too brutal with crow bars etc as you might damage something or score the disc)
6. slide new pads in (don't forget the shims & a bit of copper grease)
7. replace pins, wing clip & wire clip
8. few presses on pedal before you drive off down the road.
If you ever need to remove the calipers (changing discs etc) then :
Bit of maintenance spray on the bolts first (token gesture I think but hey). Get the necessary ring spanner - hold it tight by the shaft with one hand and give the end a few whacks with a mallet with the other hand - keep the spanner taught in the direction of undo etc.
Mine came loose with a few whacks. Do the same when you tighten them back up.
Not sure if this is of any use but good luck !
