Please help!

I have an annoying clicking and a squeak from my rear discs. Its coming from the handbrake drum on the off side. I need to strip the brake assembly to fix it but I cannot, for the love of God, remove the disc. It wont pull off and the use of a persuader (4 lb lump variety!) doesn't help. It comes off about 10 mm but no further. Is there a way to release the handbrake mech.?

Is there a method to this?

Please help me! Needs fixing quick!

on the disc you should see 2 threaded holes, M8 I think. get a couple of long bolts and wind them in. the holes look blind but their not. carry on winding in and you push against the hub and it pull the disc of in the process. !

On the back plate there is a rubber grommet , take it out and you stick a flat head screw driver in and loosen off the star shaped adjuster for the handbrake shoes , when you fit the discs back on retighten it so it's just about dragging ,

Failing that get a bigger persuader

If you force it of it will rip out the shoes with it ...

Wink

Thanks for these pearls!

Ian, is the adjuster straight in the hole? I took the plug out but couldn't see anything to loosen.

Yes its about 2 inches inside , it's a bit of hit and miss but you will feel it moving when you are moving it ,

I'd developed a similar squeak, I take it the adjuster is anticlockwise to remove the disc and clockwise to nip it up?
