Need better brakes
#1
I've just purchased a Sti version 5 Type RA and I find the brakes are really poor, not much bite at all, I have looked at pads and they have lots left on them yet.
I noticed a groop buy on Brembo 4 pots recently, would these make a big difference?
I was under the impression that my current brakes were 4 pot too, if that's the case is there a real need to change the calikpers or would I be better off just changing the disks and bads for better quality ones like tarox or AP.
I've never been too keen on Brembo's as there were on my old EVO and warped after 10k miles

Cheers RON,
I've had a read of some of the threads... Do you know if my version 5 has 4 pots which are as or almost as good as the one's on the Brembo group buy? if so then I'll just upgrade my disks and pads, or do the Brembo's offer a larger disk surface area which in turn will improve the stopping distance?

I have Tarox metalceramic discs and sintered pads. They works from 50 till 750°C and there are very agresive in breaking due ceramic friction coeficient. You vill need to keep your attention in traffic. Brakes are qiute loud more squeking like Mintex 1155.
Oh and about fade... what is fade? That little smoke going up from wheels?

Zero,
your car should have four pots, they have the SUBARU leters on them if they are, you can read this through the wheels, if it has, then I personally don't think you'd gain much by changing the calipers, if you've also got 17's, I'd go for the Godspeed 335mm kit, thats what I've got, and they work really well, and are very reasonably priced too! course, if you got 16's, then the best option really is better discs and pads, I don't have them so can't comment!

RON,
I've got 18's on at the moment and I may be changing them for another set of 18's. The calipers do say Subaru and I'm pretty sure they are 4 pots.
So whats the largest disk these calipers will take? is it 335 like the godspeed?

That's good, I'll start shopping around for some 355mm disks and decent pads. I rember how poor the standard brakes were when I first got my Sti version 1. But it was too late, it was already making love with the Merc in front....

Ive also got the Brembo 4 pots and after a couple of track days Im realy impressed with them, I didnt get any fade even on the Donnington GP circuit which can be a brake killer.
As for upgrading the backs just put some better pads in,Ferrodo DS2500 will be fine and maybe some better disks dont bother changing the calipers.
As i said the Brembo 4 pots ar great, and for the price we got them for well
