I have just bought a set of these off of scoobynet and have found that on one of the calipers the plate that goes on top of the pads to seemingly keep them seperated is missing. The guy I got them from is having a look for it but incase he can't find it will I need to get another one or will the caliper work fine without it?

The calipar will work fine. The plate you are talking about is a shim, this stops the pistons coming into direct contact with the pads.one thing you will get is a little chatter from the brakes when letting brake off.You can get these shims from subaru for a few quid

The plate that I am missing is not one of the two that is in between the pad and piston but the one that goes over and in-between the two of them.

Sounds like the spring that goes on the outside of the pads, it will work fine without it if it is, but the pads may 'rattle' a bit!
