Question

Hello guys & gals

Is anyone using the 335mm conversion kit on a 99 STI V (or similar) ?

What do you think of them ?
What pads are you using ?

Have been on the website & assume that the kit comes only for the front ?
Does anyone know what to use on the rear ?

Awaiting info from Ian at Godspeed but would like your views on this kit before purchase.

Appreciate all replies.

Thanks.
Andy.

Andy,
I fitted a kit to my sti5 last week with mintex 1144's, i'm still bedding them in really, so i can prob. give you more info' in a month or so !

the kit IS a front kit only, i will probably just renew the rears with grooved discs/new pads as and when they need them.

Initial reaction is that they make the car nose dive more than it was before, obviously biting/working much better
I've got a bit of low speed squeal at the mo' but it might just be initial bedding in dust , i'll clean them out and see if it makes any difference.

i found a good thread to help with fitting

335mm fitting guide

you need to buy a thread tap M14 x 2mm - i bought one last week for £12 - it's yours for £7 if you want ! I'll never need it again

Cool

Thnaks for the info Iain. They look good.
Did you paint the calipers red yourself ?
Was it a pain ? or did you buy them like that ?

Thanks.
Andy.

painted them myself , Halfords do a two pack kit for about £17.

It's really thick . easy to put on . the hardest part was painting the SUBARU on the caliper - it's alright from standing up , but if you crouch down it look slike i did it with my eye's shut !

don't forget the brakes won't fit under std. 16" wheels

mine are 19's so i'm ok

I have 17's so should be okay I hope.
I assume you painted the rears as well ?
Sounds like its worth having a go as they do look much better.

Cheers.
Andy.

17's are fine , they only just clear and the brakes look huge!

Definately rate them at the mo' but the proof will be at ny next track day on 29th nov.

Andy,
I have the 335 kit too, I think they are fantastic, I did a track day, and stayed out for 45mins with no fade what-so-ever, and trust me, I do like to use brakes. if you are a hard user, get grooved only, not drilled, they do crack if you over work them, I am using Mintex 1144's, The actual pads that are used are XJS pads that just need a hole lengthening slightly, so, you can if you wish run on cheapy pads, the ones that are in mine at present were 20 quid jobbies, I have a new set on order.
If you need to know anything, ask on here, there loads of people with this kit!!!

Andy,

Ian does some grooved & vented rear discs too match the fronts. You can match the pads too if you want.

I have the 335mm fitted to the fronts (Ferodo pads) and Ian's rear discs with some cheap Kevlar pads.

Got some pics on my website if you want to see what they look like.

Stefan

Thanks Stefan

Had a read of your website. Interesting about the pads. I also read about the EBC pads & was going to opt for the Mintex ones but you have made me think about this now.

It seems that I should get a better performance with the Godspeeds for the money. I am currently running Black Diamond but not sure of the pads in there at the moment (was on car when purchased).

Thanks for the information.

Andy.

Andy,
I use 1144's front and rear, standard discs on the back, and I found it to be fine, it brakes much 'flatter' than with standard pads!!
