Hello all,

I have a MY97 five door that I am very happy with. However, the brakes on the car are still totally standard and I have found them to give up after only a few miles of heavy work. The local dealership have refurbished them and cleaned them out - but they only feel a little better since then. What is the best way to improve the brakes? I understand that I may have to change them for a new set - I have 17in Prodrive wheels - so fitting bigger brakes should not be a problem - but my lack of funds is! Any advice or cheap upgrade option to the current set would be great. I would love to fit a Prodrive set - but anything must be better than the way they feel atm!!

Thanks

Thumbs up

Find a set of 4-pot calipers and discs in the For Sale section, they'll bolt straight on. Prices from about £250-300 approx. If you need discs too, have a look at Black Diamond grooved/drilled.

Pick up some decent pads for them, Ferodo DS2500 are your best bet for price/performance, but Mintex 1155 are OK and cheap.

While you're at it, get a set of braided steel hoses (£60) and DOT5.1 fluid (£20?).

Job done, major improvement.

Best of Luck.

Tony
