I have read various things about the brakes on my MY99 UK Turbo but I'll ask anyway. The brakes seem quite poor, on the first press of the pedal you get quite a bit of travel, but if you come off the brakes then press it straight away again it firms up quite nicely. Is this normal?
Is there anything I can do to improve them without spending too much? I have just had them bleed, and I have new OEM discs and new pagid pads on the front, but they are still poor for such a fast car.
I drove a MY01 2 litre GX and it's brakes were amazing, why???

If the pedal comes up higher on the second press, then there could easily be air in the system, just cos they've been bled, doesn't mean there isn't any air in there!!

I've heard there is a one way valve that assists the brake servo's or something like that. Does anyone know what this does and could it be faulty?

First observation is a 2 ltr GX won't be going as fast as a 2 ltr Turbo so braking will instantly "feel" better in the GX. ( No disrespect to GX owners intended - I'm sure theres fast GX drivers out there that would give a Turbo drivers a run for their money )

Secondly I would echo the air in the system problem.

Third - Did they change the fluid or just bleed the system, and have you done any "hard" stopping ?
Sounds like you may have cooked the fluid, and a simple bleed will still leave old fluid near the calipers while the new fluid is in the reservoir.

Cheers for the advice. I'll check with the dealers but it should have been a complete replace. I'll trying bleeding them first.

I always found the brakes on my MY99 the same as you, almost as if you have to prime the system first. Nothing I did seemed to help (tried flushing with new fluid, race fluid, braided hoses, support bracket, GPN disks, pagid pads). Maybe I was bleeding them wrongly.

Mind you by the end with all the bits I'd put on it was very hard to fade them, but I didn't really have total confidence in them.
