Every once in a blue moon, and it happens when the car is cold, warm or hot as hell, my scoob just refuses to brake properly. The pedal goes hard, the ABS kicks in but the car slows down no quicker than an oil tanker. It's downright dangerous. I almost collected a fiesta as a piece of bonnet jewellery today.

Needless to say there is no pattern and I cannot reproduce the symptoms. My dealer reports no known issues.

I have standard brakes apart from uprated pads. It happened with the std pads once or twice too.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

check the non-return valve in the servo pipe.

ABS wouldn't kick in if the servo was misbehaving.

I think it's just over sensitive ABS. Once the ABS has kicked in spuriously the ABS will be limiting the braking effort which will produce the car-not-slowing-down much effect. Bit worrying I agree but doesn't happen often enough to really worry me.

I'm not unduly worried but it only happens when you need the brakes and by default that's often a dangerous situation. Hey ho.
