WRX03 tyre wear
#1
Hi All,
Checked my tyres at the weekend and noticed the front passenger side tyre is getting near bald on the outside visible edge. I did tyre rotation at 6-7k (can't remember the exact figure) because I noticed it was getting down then. Is it because we do more right hand bends to why its wearing quicker?
My car's covered 11500miles on these tyres (Bridgestone factory fitted).
Is this a normal symptom?
Cheers
Frank

Fastfrank: I am at the 6.5k point with my original Bridgstones, the front outside edges are going first
I notice the tread on the outside edge is quit weak and seems to wear fast on all the Scoobys I have seen, especially at the front.
So its not just you.

on my my01 I get through a set every 7 to 10K so you are lucky... and it's always the edges that go first (tracking ok etc... just going round corners and islands )

oooohhh.....me too..me too. MY03 Bridgestone potenzas.
Maybe going around roundabouts at silly speeds is the cause (my Dads root cause analysis!)?
Maybe the tyre is over/under inflated? (over inflated I would expect the middle of the tyre to start going first? underinflated and I would expect both sides to get it)
Tracking?
Alignment?
Fat ***** in passenger seat?
Engine weight apportionment?
Brakes?
Combination/permutation of some/all of the above?
I had the same problem on my ZR160 (Pzeros) and my SaxoVTR (pilot sports)
If anyone has a solution, please let me know, as 6k out of a £100 quid tyre is taking the p1ss.

I got approx 10k out of my potenzas on my MY03WRX.
I had the alignment checked and also aparently it's common that the dealers under-inflate the tyres ?!?!
I use F-1's now. Much better choice IMHO

My edges were going at 6K - so put them on the rear.
Also had Powerstation do the geometry - it would appear that from the factory it was running zero degrees negative camber on the front - with some toe out! Fronts now set to 1.5 degrees negative!!! :
Rears were ok at 1.6 degrees negative ...
Even so, all 4 tyres trashed at 15K .....

Guys,
I put 33psi in the fronts and 31.5 in the rear (as the manual states).
I'm thinking of popping into my local garage and seeing if they'll rotate the front and rear tyres off the rims so I can make the most of these rubbers.
PS. How easy is it to knock of the tracking? and can you tell in other ways other than an odly worn tyre?
Cheers

IMHO ensuring that the wheel alignment is correct and rotating the wheels front to back at 10,000 mile service will minimise tyre wear. I had PowerStation do the wheel alignment on my STi7 and I still have around 3mm tread left on the original Bridgestones after 20,000 miles. The car has not done any track days but has been to the IOM twice with SIDC.

Exactly the same wear pattern on my MY03, but I have nearly made it to 18,000 miles - on what (I thought) was rapid driving. Everyone has said that the nsf outside tyre wear is to be expected, definitely not any problems with tracking etc.
