ABS light Comes On Help!!
Hi Everybody
I'm having a bit of a problem with my ABS on my 99 turbo
I get the ABS dash light come on after about 5 miles of driving. It happened on the way home from work last night and also on the way to work this morning. I tested the brakes today before the ABS light came on and the ABS worked fine and also the light didn't come on straight after the emergency stop. After the ABS light has come on no ABS.
I have read on a tread ages ago about dirty ABS sensors on the hubs that some time's causes a problem. Does this sound like it could be this or is it something more serious? Also will I get a CEL read out, so I can find out more about the fault?
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Tom

it could be a bit of muck on the sensors or they could be faulty , or it could be the fluid has dropped as the pads are wearing down so the sensor has detected low fluid , check your reservoir.

Thanks for the advise Ian
Just been out to have a look at the brake fluid level that's all ok. I had the ABS light come on about 4 months ago, That is when I saw that tread about dirty sensors, so I had a look at the sensors when I was having my tyres change (just happened to be on the same day). I didn't manage to get them fee as I was only using my hands to try and undo them. But the light didn't show up again until now.
Do you know how easy it is to get the sensors off the car (any special tool needed) and are they easy to clean?
Oh and if it is a faulty sensor how can I tell which one it is?
Any more help would be great.
Thanks

Its one bolt holding them in place , there are 2 types , one that fits in a hole and points at a metal ring on the back of the drive flange , the other type fits into a hole in the hub and senses off the CV joints , these dont generally have a dirt problem as they are sealed and road muck cant get in , the other type does get dirty
They may need a bit of a tug to get them out as the hubs do go rusty , just be carefull not to go too rough with them or you could damage them
Take your time and it should be easy enough
Cheers Ian

Thanks again Ian And R Johnson
I wish it was as easy as the brake bulbs. That would have been a nice easy fix but they are all ok
Ian :
I have got a feeling that I have got the sealed units that fit into a hole @ the back of the hubs the cars is a MY99.
Do you know if the ECU Tec's delta dash would display the fault codes as it seem the only way to find out exactly where the fault is on the ABS system, I.E which sensor has gone up the spout if it is a sensor @ fault.
God I hate it when something's goes wrong with the scoob, usually means its about to fleece my pockets
Thanks
