Question Question about brakes.

What is it that causes brakes to squeek?

I have noticed that sometimes when I use the brakes (standard Brembo) on my MY03 STi TypeUK I get a high pitched squeeling, not very loud, but loud enough for me to hear. If I press harder on the brakes it dissappears.

Any ideas?

How many miles have they done?

Pads have wear indicators on them....to erm....indicate wear, they do this by squeeking and annoying you so much you go and get new ones.

Blimey! Hope that isn't it, they have only done about 4500miles!

Didn't know if it might just be salt or dirt on the pads from all the crappy weather and gritting Doesn't happen all the time, just noticed it a few times recently.

Think I will check the pads anyway.

If anyone could find out all the reasons why pads squeal every pad manufacturer in the world would employ them at any salary they care to name almost

not true of the 'brembo' pads.......................this particular caliper design has a number of issues incl. noise!!
can be partly cured by meticulous cleaning of the caliper to get rid of old pad material..........
hope this helps,
