Gold or Silver wheels
#1
Does anybody regret having gold wheels? I have ordered some Prodrive ones for my DBM MY99, but I am wondering whether they will attract the wrong kind of attention – either from vandals or police.

Purposeful, yes.
Hard? , not my style.
If I'd wanted to look "hard" I'd have gone for a lowered cossie with blacked out windows.
But then, I drive an impreza mostly 'cos of what it does, not how it looks.(wheels excepted)

I've been considering getting rid of the Goldies ever since I got the car for the very reasons you mention. And while I'm on I might ditch the stupid wing.
Still the best bloody car I've ever had though, including a TVR and 2 911's!

No no no
Gold wheels are horrible!!
Black/ anthracite are the best looking (IMHO). Gives the car a "street racer/pimpmobile" image ie hard not pretty boy.
Is that the sound of approaching flames I hear...

Yuk anthracite wheels on a Dark Blue car
On a silver or white car anthracite wheels look good, green and red suit silver and the dark blue cars suit gold. These are of course my opinion, and i have seen green cars with gold wheels that looked really good. Silver cars with silver wheels, especially when they have been colour coded look a bit too much.
I have never had any undue attention due to having gold wheels, other than hearing people say what the f*** is that when you drive past

Heh Heh Heh....are we all sheep now? Why won't you say what you know you really want to.....
Gold wheels with black mica, DBM or Sonic Blue look good.
Gold wheels with red/white/green/silver (especially silver) are HORRIBLE.
Black/anthracite wheels (or any dodgy colour coding) are even worse. Who wants to be a pimp/hard boy anyway????

Hmmmm maybe anthracite on DBM is a bit dodgy.
I've got a grey metallic STi with anthracite wheels and I've never heard any remarks against. Reminds me a bit of the old Alfa touring car look.
Anyway, are you really saying that you buy a car like an Impreza (not known for its classic good looks anyway) without thinking of it as "hard" looking?
Huggy Bear and proud of it.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a library of wheel pics fitted to different coloured cars on the SIDC web site or BBS.
This could also include other items like body kits, exhausts etc.
I think the SIDC site could be much improved in this area, which shouldn't be an issue with the number IT bods and 'Professor Frink' types as members.
I especially want to see 17" Oz Super T's on a Cool Grey STI .....Mmmmmm.

You're right - but you wouldn't buy it if the only colur it came in was pink with flowers on it would you?
I guess I kind of meant purposeful but I think their pretty similar when applied to cars. After all, its purpose is to win rallies and you have to be pretty "hard" (as a car) to do that don't you?

Agreed, Richard.
And if I wanted to be REALLY hard, my cosworth would have a Scooby scoop, rear wing and gold wheels.....and spray it sonic blue.......and then write it off......

I think it is a matter of personal taste. i have gold alloys on a silver MY99 and I think it looks really good (i love them ) and if I would go for 17" I would still go for gold ones. The MY99 royal silver is a new colour code with a beige tint, which helps

I think gold wheels look great on the blue cars, except the reddish-blue (where I think silver looks better). I thought about gold wheels on my green car, but it seems as if the wheels are constantly dirty! I settled for silver wheels!

I've got a DBM MY99, ordered 17" OZ Gold super t's. For a week before I collected the car I had severe second thoughts re unwanted attention, looking like a boy racer etc etc. The second I saw them on the car they looked superb. Several other Scooby owners have likewise comented. Doesn't look MAX POWER, or 'lad about town'. Where are you - i'm in lancashire, if you are near - pop round and have a look - you will be more than relieved!!!

I think all MY99 owners should be forced to buy 17" gold wheels so cheapskates like me can buy up their 16" wheels and tyres for a good price
Seriously, GaryC's DBM does look and sound cool with gold wheels and the Prodrive BB.
Cheers,
Andy

Thanks for all the advice, I'll go with Gold. GaryC, I'm a long way from Lancashire, so I can't take up the offer. They should be fitted on Monday, so it's not long to wait.

If you look on the scoobysport site, there is a picture of an RB5 with the scoobysport multi-spoke wheels on - similar to OZ, bit cheaper, not quite as nice (sorry Pete!) but will give you a fair idea
