Avon ZZ1

Hi,
I've finally got MY97 Cat and as part of the deal they replaced the 15" alloys with 16".
However, the tyres are Avon ZZ1's. I usually read the BBS once a week and can't remember ever seeing these mentioned.
Does anyone have any comparative data or experience of these and should I be looking to change them ASAP?
John.

Hi John
I have just fitted a set of ZZ1`S 206/50/16 seem ok so far, sorry I have no data as I have only had my MY94 WRX a couple of months and it came with winter grips !
For what its worth I used Avons when I used to race my CBR600 the fronts were brilliant, probibaly means nothing in relation to the ZZ1`S. The Avon rep told me that 225/50/16 `s were the size recommended and I had a set on for a couple of weeks but they were about 2mm from the rear strut and scraped the rear arches with a passenger in, he changed them for the 205`s FOC yesterday and the car is now much more nimble. I have not yet done any serious stuff yet though.

Hi John
I did have these on my car until I had an accident last Thursday night and to be perfectly honest they were the biggest waste of money I have ever spent on a set of tyres. Even in the dry they would understeer badly and in the wet they were even worse . If I were you I would change them quickly before winter sets in fully.
Cheers Dave
P.S. the accident was caused by black ice , not many tyres do grip on that stuff .

Thanks.
That is really concerning Big Bear. The only blub I've found about this tyre pushes the fact that it is a good wet weather tyre.
Just goes to show how dangerous advertising hype can be.
